Broughton Audio Super Thread

None Broughton pedal question.
I recently picked up a Boss OC-5. So now I'm curious how does it compare to the MXR VBO. Anyone here tried both? MXR VBO is cheap enough I might just get one but I've been on a real pedal buying spree as of late. Any insight would be appreciated. I made the mistake of not even trying to get a Subsonic because I had just bought a Gojira FX Octave Generator which has already lost its place on my big board and never will return. So, Octave spot on my Broughton Centric Pedalboard is between DBO, VBO, OC-5. I like both the OC-5 & DBO. Just figured since the VBO and Subsonic are OC-2 clones I'd get the VBO since I figured it would be the closest to OC-2 or Subsonic.

I have the boss oc5 and mxr vbo. They're both perfectly respectable devices. They both can pull off the oc2 sound, though the oc5 is obviously more versatile and the +1 octave is cool. For the oc2 sound, I prefer the vbo's voice.

I need a cable with an angled XLR plug for my Studio One to finish my new board layout. All the cables I can find online have the plug angling downwards, but I need it to go left or right so it's horizontal with the pedal. Does that even exist? Any idea where I can find such a thing?

I have one with this connector:
AAA3FBLP

The part the cable comes out can rotate and then be tightened down at different angles. I had BTPA make make me cables to finish my Temple audio board, the other end of my XLR cable is a D panel type mounted on the side panel of the board.

So either this pedal was really desired or Broughton hype has reached a higher level because in my short time buying Josh's pedals I don't remember any pedal selling out that fast.
Competition for Broughton tube pedals is on another level. There's a reason Quicksilvers and Sunrays are highly coveted and basically never for sale.

What's disappointing is that other Halloween drops were more than a one time thing; The Calamity for example.
I see no reason why the Quick Silver couldn't be released again, I'm sure there's more than enough interest.
Ultimately though, that decision is up to Josh as to whether he wants to build any more.

Wouldnt it be awesome to make fewer pedals everyone already has and more of the ones we dont?? Yeah..that would be awesome

Nope.
Josh keeping popular pedals in stock is good business for Josh. I'd much rather see him run a successful business than cater to the wants of a few on TB (and I don't mean that with any ill will towards the members of this thread, or TB as a whole). It wasn't that long ago that Josh didn't really keep anything in stock. Despite missing drops, it's a great time to be a Brough.

Seems to me making more of the pedals people are salivating over is good for business too. I mean it ain’t like they won’t sell…and quickly at that. I’m not bashing on Josh or how he runs his business. Just saying it would awesome to have some of these much sought after pedals in drops of more than 25 so more people can get in on the action. Unless the point is to keep them limited. Either way Josh can run things how he wants. I’m just a guy with cash looking for frivolous ways to spend it and I’m sure there a couple more folks in this thread like me lol. I’m just wishing is all. No disrepect

I'm guessing that part of the issue with some of the highly sought after pedals that have been limited to smaller runs is some inherit complexity or challenge with the circuit that makes them more difficult or time consuming to produce. I don't think Josh is holding out on stuff just to make it more exclusive.
I imagine that some of the doo-hickeys and whatsits that go into these wonderful gizmos are still difficult, post- pandemic to get your hands on, thus their relative scarcity.

Unique tube drive with a tilt EQ. Tube variances caused the batches to be split into two limited runs with times posted. Both were brief yet epic blood baths in broad daylight. One of Josh's best designs and intentions but the feeding frenzy was reaching new heights.
Thanks! Not sure how I missed that on the archive page. I even ctrl-f'd "sun". Must've misspelled sun lol

Give it time. The Calamity was only just re-released this year. The Valve Champ (Halloween 2022) was a re-release of the Bug Drive. Though not a Halloween drop, the Archetype Valve Boost was just re-released after 6 years. Josh is one man. He can only build so much. Given the quality of the brand, demand will always outpace supply unless he changes his business model. And it doesn't seem like he is inclined to do that which is his call to make.

He also clearly thrives via creativity, which is why there are so many new products released all the time. Sure, that means the drop sizes are smaller, but I for one think it's cool the man has so many ideas and is able to execute them. No other brand is as consistently innovative.

I do really hope the QS makes a return.
I am a little bitter that I missed out on that one, but it is what it is.

I have a few Broughton's already, and I love them, so the plan is get more when my wallet and luck allows.

What's a Sunray? Just curious; it's not on the site.
Two scoops of crushing raisins.

Yes. Mine is from the Xmas 21 drop I believe, so with the ground lift switch on the top, but with the xlr like the latest version:

Good news, apparently regular Neutrik plugs can be rotated easily! Case closed. Gonna leave this here for anyone interested:

My S1 is from the Xmas 2021 drop and this works:

But beware: the newer ones (Xmas 2022) seem to have the XLR connector rotated 90°.
