Broughton Audio Super Thread

My S1 is from the Xmas 2021 drop and this works:

But beware: the newer ones (Xmas 2022) seem to have the XLR connector rotated 90°.
The RFE led is bright aint it… I use the same low and mid settings as you but I LPF at 2k

I'm confused, I just checked my S1 and it's the same. I was convinced it was rotated downwards, no clue how where I got that from.
The Studio One XLR output has always been in the same location. The filters did change direction (compared to older models) when the XMAS 2021 dropped, but the earth lift toggle remains atop the case unlike the 2022 drop when the lift was placed besides the XLR output. The toggle had been now replaced with a push button, like the Messenger setup, to keep neighboring objects from getting hung up.

Rotated as in orientation of the jack.

There’s a shot of my low profile xlr.

Orientation doesn't really matter till you are trying to squeeze something onto a tight board. Never gave it a thought till I decided to be fancy and have a board with in/outs on a side panel. I rotated the XLR jack once or twice because I flipped back and forth between that S1 and a Messenger last.

Above should say plug, the plug can spin, no changes made to my pedal.

Aha, I was going to ask about that! How did you change the orientation of the XLR output of the S1 with the gnd/lift switch on top? Any soldering required?

Wouldnt it be awesome to make fewer pedals everyone already has and more of the ones we dont?? Yeah..that would be awesome

I think you have a misunderstanding about who “everyone” is even though Josh continues to mention how this group is a small subset of his customer base.

I didn't do anything to the pedals, that i show they came.

This plug on my XLR can rotate, as long as the cable can handle it. The wider "collar" section is threaded and is what holds the end cap that the cable comes out through. Just loosen and rotate, the tighten it back down.

Received my 3 Buffer Bandwidth Amplifiers (three setups all here at home these days). Passive Fenders>BBA>compressor>one or two tone preamps>Broughton HPF/LPF>Traynor amplifiers.

As expected, a subtle but noticeable tone cleanup even with dial at 0. Turning up the dial (and reducing the level of pedals after it) seems to increase this cleaning effect. Very satisfied.

Those with a Studio One and a Messenger Jr., which do you prefer and why?

yes.

Well, get yourself a V2 Messenger and Studio One Boost or Studio Boost Mini. Best of both worlds, plus much more headroom on tap, as I like my Studio One gain and/or filters on the tail end of my setups

This all day every day.

I do have a Messenger Jr. and I've been eyeing the Studio One but it hasn't been available for a while now. I really like the sound of 1073 preamps, but really, who doesn't? I'd be interested in the Studio Boost if it gets released again (or if I can find one for a reasonable price) but probably not the Mini.

I like both. The S1 for the recording board because of its sound, the Messenger Jr for live boards because of its size. Check this fun little quiz I did back in August.
Listening now, thank you!

I have a messenger v1, messenger jr, studio1, studio boost, and studio boost mini.

I think my ultimate favorite for both sound and functionality is the studio boost+ messenger v1 combo but it also takes up the most space.

I use the studio boost mini with the messenger jr and it works/sounds great, I have the SBM underneath the board and the messenger jr on top, space is at a premium on that board and the compact size of both of those pedals make it work out just perfect.

I have a third small board that uses the studio one at the end of its chain and it certainly does the trick, so I say just get whatever you can get your hands on!
