Broughton Audio Super Thread

I routed my board different and am now noticing a subtle high pitch whine from the ETDI pedal version. Only change made is putting it under the board next to a cioks7. Any brough pros have any ideas what that might be? Possible tube?

Maybe the ETDI transformer's magnetic field is picking up switch-mode noise from the Cioks?

Do you have an MXR pedal on the board? Not sure why, but my MXR Bass Envelope Filter whines when engaged downstream from my Demeter Tube DI (similar concept to the ETDI). It's quiet when the Tube DI is after it.

That’s why I asked a pro, I don’t know electronics enough, it’s the only change I made. It’s butt up against it.

I'm only pro in getting confounded by unexpected problems myself lol

Can you flip the ETDI around, or does that mess up your XLR output run? Getting the side of the ETDI that has the transformer away from the Cioks could do the trick (I never experienced it myself, but some pedals are known to be unusable next to the Voodoo/Truetone supplies that have toroidal/linear power supplies).

Does someone here have a little (recording/live) pedalboard revolving around the Messenger. I'm looking for some inspiration

I'm set up for tracking right now, which is why things are a bit of a cluster right now. But this reminded me that I can swap the cheapo di box I'm using with the Messenger Jr. Biggest benefit of recording the bass at home: five bass tracks at once.

I thought about that after you mentioned the transformer. I can try that, it’s my only option. It’ll have to be after the holiday run of shows. As of now I have the RFE (after it) and using the amp DI but I really don’t like that. That will be my next move. Thanks.

Re: Messengers and Studio Boosts, here's my Broughton / Source Audio board.

I added the Studio Boost today. Rewired the entire board in a hurry (including the audio path, MIDI, and power,) so the cabling is a bit messy at the moment.

I only got a few minutes to play around with it, but this is my first time hearing a Studio Boost or Studio One. I must say the RFE > SB > MJr combination sounds as good as you think it would :) And I still haven't really dialed in the RFE yet.

I'd call this "beta 0.7" of the board, and it's a slow work in progress due to anxiety about making changes between gigs. But we're off until NYE, so it's time to start tinkering again. Nothing is dual locked down yet, except for the Messenger. I haven't even used the loop switching capabilities of the PBC 6X yet. Just using it as a MIDI controller. The plan is to make custom cables with square plugs and actually be able to use the loop switcher.

Everything is powered by a Cioks DC7 with a DC8 on the bottom, sending 18V to all the Broughton pedals.

Should probably wait until Friday for this, but have any of you geniuses tried to run a Kalimba into your board? Im serious. I think I may be on to something here. Im buying one..Im thinking about buying one, but I’m not entirely comfortable with being an iconoclast. Irregardless, heres a Breakfast Sammich:

I think as long as you use the Studio One penultimatey into the Messenger, you are cooking with gas.

Kalimba? Yep, many times, also my Electro Faustus Black Fly and other noise makers.
