Brubaker Brute Club, Part 2

Is the white brute more of an artic white or oly white? This would be my first 5 string in 15 years. I sold my only 5 string 13 years ago because I wasn't fond if the tight spacing. These basses look like they have room to work. Your thoughts?

Oh yeah, i posted these in another forum, but here's a "Brute In Action" Pic from Friday night's gig. We had John Steward from the legendary Fishbone on drums!

Brubaker Love!!

Being a Fender guy for a long time, the 19mm bridge spacing and the 34" scale seemed a little awkward at first, but it's fine now. If you play near the bridge like I do, that took a little bit of an adjustment. It's a really comfortable bass. The neck is worth it alone.

Philly - that bass is gonna be hot! Good luck with the clinic this Sunday! I'm so gassing for an American Brubaker after owning this Brute for a few months.... eventually it will come. I'm positive of this. :p

Thanks about the clinic. This is a beginning of a great thing for me. I hope to go to a regional presence to a national presence in a clinician role. In any event it will be great fun.

The American Brubakers are simply awesome and are unique sounding instruments. I was sold from day one when I heard Malcolm Hall's demo videos. It took a few years but I'm happy to say I'm on the waiting list.

Ebay seller just updated me: New (prepaid) Brute's expected in early June now pushed back to "about 3 weeks or so". Grrr...

I could cancel that order for a new MJX-5 Black Brute w/burst picgard and buy a new MJX-5 white Brute w/black pgard from another Ebayer. The white with blk gard looks pretty sharp but its' gonna cost me more; no free ship from this seller and his sell price is higher too. :hmm:

I contacted second seller about the Brute he has. He said he picked it up about 2 weeks ago from his visit to Kevin's shop and that more will come in about 3 weeks. So I guess first seller is being up front about the time frame as in 3 weeks. I got a good deal $$-wise from first seller, doubt second seller can beat that price. Plus first seller has my $$ already.

Oh well, just venting, pulling at the bit as I'm anxious to try out the Brute bass. And with a few basses sitting around unplayed in awhile, it's not like I need the Brute now. Soooo, I guess I can hold out for "3 weeks or so" () for my Brute to arrive. Both sellers have been good communicators and are authorized Brubaker dealers, so I feel I'm in good hands with either. Hope 3 weeks flys by. :hyper: :bassist:

Will the new updated electronics Brutes' have a actual sliding switch on front of body for the coil tap? One Brubaker online ad states that you can now have "a Lakland-like bass" with the new updates.

I was thinking this meant there will be a toggle switch on front of body like a MusicMan Stingray 5 or maybe like the Skyline 55-02? Just wondering how there gona do that.

And are the older electronics in the Brutes' not worth the wait for the newer updates? I may have a line on older Brute. But the pups do have that white lettering which I thought meant it was some kinda upgrade before the latest one? Just wondering, thanks for any info.

There will probabaly just be a toggle switch, just like the many many other basses that have the same function. Or maybe they would put in on a push-pull pot, but push-pulls tend to be rather expensive.

The white letter is the "upgraded" electronics. I guess you could say they are the most recent version. They sound great. If you can get a good deal, I would just get the older one - there will be some differences, but not $300 worth off differences, you know what I mean?

hey thanks for that info. Well seller offered me a discount to wait about 3 weeks more for the newer model Brute. I'm not getting a SC but after watching that video above by Malcolm; a SC 4 would be interesting to try out.

I was just gona get my refund and buy that other older but updated pups Brute MJX-5. But no hurry need-wise and the discount helps in the waiting game. :smug:

So I guess I'll hold out abit longer and see how the newest Brutes do. But if yet another delay comes up, I'll just go another way and keep shopping. Those import Zon's just caught my eye now. :eyebrow: Thanks again, e.

Played both Brutes at my clinic and they were both Brutal sounding. Played on D'Addario Pro Steels. I like them. A lot. Got the tip for the strings from Rodney 'Skeet' Curtis. Had a Video guy there as well. He's working on the tape.

The import Zons are cool, but they have never caught one like the Brutes (both made their debut at the same NAMM show). They are nice basses, but something just feels sterile about them - kind of like pasta that isn't made by your mother. You know what I mean?

Philly I hope the clinic went fine and I was wondering if you could elaborate some on the Pro Steel strings? I'd like to experiment with some string changes on my brute..Thanks in advance..
