My Brubaker Brute MJX-5 has been upgraded finally. Reed James Neo J/MM Set, Bart NTMB Pre, new black knobs with pearloid tops. I'll post a Pic later
A friend of mine recently convinced me that my life would be better with a Brukaber, and after playing his I must agree. A search here on TB showed that at one time there was such a thing as a headless version of the Brubaker Brute singlecut. However, I don't see them offered on their web page. Please don't tell me that they don't make them anymore! I love singlecut and I love headless. If I could find and affordable headless singlecut 5 string I'd buy one tomorrow. Are thes still available?
Looking forward to pics, and sound clips if possible. I've been toying with the idea of trying a set of the RJ Neos. Want to hear how they sound with the Bart pre in a Brute!
Sorry. But I'm pretty sure, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, that there is only one headless Brute SC out there. And that was a prototype model from when they were first designing the SC's. Maybe Brad will chime in and let us know if there is any chance for a headless SC in the future?
.......which is a great pity. Thinking of the interest in the headless singlecut which seems to have been around since the prototype's first unveiling (if not before), maybe a large enough group of TB'ers & other interested parties getting things together petition-wise etc might sway things in their (read "our") favour. I realize that a hundred names with a Kickstarter-style pledge probably wouldn't make a dent in initial retooling costs etc, but Mr B & co seem forward thinking enough to maybe reconsider the idea. If I'm repeating a suggestion from earlier in this thread or elsewhere I apologize but I'm not immediately aware of any such action. Anyone else care to jump on to this particular bus?
I really wanted the headless model, but got tired of waiting for it to be released. I instead bought a Brute SC five string that DID go into production. It is a fantastic bass at a good price.
I think the Brute SC headless would put Steinberger's Synapse line out of business. I have owned a Synapse and found it to be lacking in sound and construction. Yet they're still sold and there is definitely a market for a quality, affordable headless. I'd buy at least two as soon as they were released. This would immediately become my main bass.
From Brad Johnson at Brubaker: "We decided not to go forward with the headless Brute at this time.". So that's that.
My guess...there are a fair number of brutes around for sale. Don't seem to be as much demand as I expected. There are the I have to have a fender shoppers...
A headless Brute might have ended my GAS cravings once and for all. It's a conspiracy I tells ya.
Hey, just throwing it out there, if anyone has a used Brute 5 they're looking to sell or trade, I'm in the market...especially if you've made some interesting mods, which it seems a lot of people do to these.

I just got a JJX5 from the classifieds in my ongoing quest for the one.. I keep getting closer.. I was moved by the MTD Kingstons.. and the Lakland Skylines.. (sold my recently acquired 55-02 though.. I prefer the 55-01 ) and I saw a JJX5 listed that just screamed YOU WANT ME!! based on what the poster said it had as ar as hardware.
Then of course I did the obligatory research.. and was very impressed by what I found about the Brus.. I am so looking forward to getting this bass.. I think I am going to be more impressed than I was by my 55-02...

I'm looking at buying a JJX-5 locally... I need your help TB! Is a very good condition brute worth 500$ CAD (approx 450$ USD)? I'd really like to pick it up but would like to know if I should try to bring the seller down lower. Thanks guys!
I would say buy it.
I paid what I paid for my Brute because after I did some research into what was added to it.. and based on my own experience with modding basses and buying modded basses I decided it was worth it. JJX5s are getting rare.. I see a lot of MJX5s and MJX5s SCs ...but the JJX5s seem to be dwindling. If you find one for $500 CAD I say go for it as long as it is in good shape.Based on what mine was modded with and what a new one would have gone for I felt it was worth it.
