I figure i can just run it vol-blend-tone, keep the coil tap, and leave an unconnected pot in the last spot, my "Producer's Knob"!
But we'll see when we peek inside.
And it may sound too good as is, so I won't mess with it.
Also, as I know nothing of the pups Brubaker uses, it may not have enough output in passive.
We'll see!

I gotcha. Lol. I like the active capabilities so I'd prefer to have It be switchable.
Years ago I tore the active pre out of my '96 Ibanez TR505 and wired it up straight passive VVT. I didn't leave a "producer knob" lol but I just left the holes open. Let us know how you adventure in passiveness goes!

Ok so I've decided on the pre and MM pup I'm gonna swap in, both Bart, but I had a question about the neck pup. Did I read somewhere in these 50+ pages that the neck pup is longer than a normal one. Just looking for some clarification! Thanks!

Cool. Found it! Knew I'd seen something about needing the bridge pup in the neck.
don't put a bridge pickup in the neck position. just get a neck pickup that is the right size and be prepared to widen the opening on the pickguard a wee bit for a good fit.

Those that say the stock electronics are noisy, would you say it's the pickups or preamp that's noisy?

I'd swap the pups first and get something that you can switch the quad-coil better. I loved being about take mine to single/parellel vs single/series like it comes stock. I went with Aguilar pups. Their a little dry-er but I have really enjoyed them + I wanted exposed poles.

Well it arrived today so of I got it restrung and set it up and made sure everything was tightened up. really impressed so far. Good neck. balances well on the strap.
Gonna be playing this weekend so couple gigs so I'll have a better feel of it then.
Had to open it up to get a better look at this deeeeeep bolt on neck. Pretty cool!

I've got a set of Barts from a long-simmering project and the bridge pup fits perfectly.
I've got a preamp coming, and i figure with the new pre and a new neck pup, i can hold off on getting a new bridge.
Besides, i like the way the bridge pup sounds.
Mentioning, is it possible to wire the bridge pup as single/series instead of single/parallel/series?
I have use for the single coil sound, and the series MM tone, but i've never liked an MM in parallel.
I've read that the spacing on the pole pieces is usually different since the strings are further apart at the bridge. It might sound great, might not, depending on the bass and the pickup I suppose.

Alright been playing the mjx for almost a week and I've noticed some things. The bass balances great and the neck is quite comfortable. I'm happy with the electronics but wish the pick guard is a little thinner. It's beautiful though.
I restrung the bass E-C as has been my normal tuning for 20 years and went to task setting up the bass. Neck relief, action everything was good for me. Raised the E and A saddles a lil to remove some buzz in the low frets and then had a hell of a time intonating it. Had to take the spring off the E saddle to get it far enough back. Now I'm starting to see some places where the frets don't seem to be in tune with what they should be.
I've got it all tuned up and then when trying some chording between the 6 and 12 feet everything sound off. And ideas?!
Alain when plugged in I'm getting a strange chorusing effect when playing. It almost sounds like something under the oickgurd is causing some strange overtones.
Love the bass but would love it more if I could figure out what's going on.
Has anyone ever sent a Brute in to Kevin for work?

I've seen at least 1 brute on Kevin's bench via his instagram.
I'm curious if your pups are out of phase or they've gone microphonic.
So far no real problems with mine except some rough fret ends. It's in the shop for a setup right now, having the pups balanced, fret ends dressed, and maybe a new nut.
Looking forward to getting her back!

Yeah I've actually returned the bass. Just couldn't get a good feeling from it. It was beautiful and I wanted love it but just didn't. I'll have another Brubaker in the future. This just wasn't the bass for me.
