Man I'd love to play a 'real' Brubaker some day. I love the look of his single cuts.

There was definitely a night/day difference after I installed my Barts. The stock pickups did nothing for me at all, but I expected that. I don't fault Brubaker, you gotta go cheap somewhere. Luckily he did it on the one thing that's easily replaceable.

Yes it's Nato wood, not basswood.

This is a funny subject. I have both read and heard basswood, but I guess I have stand corrected. I decided to check directly, and while the Kevin doesn't seem to have a 100% certainty on it, he says nato.

His response -

Roy,

I was told is was basswood, then I was told it was NATO.

Kevin

In either case, they are cheap woods, often chosen primarily for budgetary reasons.

It's odd, the natural Brute doesn't look like the description or pictures of nato, but does look like basswood. Nato, from the pictures and descriptions on the web, is either dark/reddish or heavily streaked.

My ear is not as discriminating. I have 59Js and NTMB. I cannot honestly say I found an immediate "night and day difference." I actually found that my full appreciation of the upgrade occurred over time and with subtleties.

+1 on this. Although my JJX has Delano pups and I just swaped out my Delano 2 band for a Glock. 3 band to give me myself a little better mids control/warmth.

Man, mine were a HUGE difference. The stock pickups were just flat and bland with no real character. They just kinda went 'thuuud thuuud' with no bite, bark, grit, growl, or hair. Now I can get all that stuff, plus cop a P bass with just the neck pickup. Maybe it's the EMG pre? The mid sweep does come in handy!

Number, please. No pics yet, but the same as the OP's, except the pickguard is white. Barts seem to be the replacement pickups of choice, but I don't know what preamp to use. Any suggestions?

I use the EMG BTS with great results, love the mid sweep control. I have a couple sound clips a few threads up in two different posts in this thread.

Yeah just sand down a little area where the wire touches and you'll be fine. Definitely post some pictures when you get done! How much did Carvin charge for the extra tuner?

Hey man Finally got my Brubaker together. If you have issues with seeing the pictures let me know i can e-mail them or something or change the settings on the picasa album[Invalid or Expired Link Removed] [Invalid or Expired Link Removed][Invalid or Expired Link Removed][Invalid or Expired Link Removed][Invalid or Expired Link Removed][Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Wow it looks great! Can you get a good shot of the front of the headstock? There is one taken from the top, but I can't really get a good feel of how the black tuners look on it.

Did the bridge come with chrome saddles, or did you swap the chrome saddes from your old bridge?

I added some more pictures to the picasa album, that i just took. The bridge came with black saddles so i swapped them out from the old bridge... and I took the chrome washers from the original tuning machines and put them with the black tuning machines...
I don't think i can get rid of this bass anytime soon... I've been getting compliments since Friday night since it was finished the 3 times I gigged... Can't part with this anytime soon.. and the barts for Pickups and the aguilar pre-amp work well

Not sure if it bothers you but I bought carvin tuner in black... I didn't realize they said carvin on the back of them until I took the pictures saturday... Oh well doesn't bother me... if it does for you you may want to get a different brand i just decided to make one order because i bought the black bridge from carvin.

My Brute is 9 pounds, 8 oz. Shocking. It's a full pound less than my G&L but is by far the lightest feeling bass I've ever played. It honestly does not feel like a 9.5 pound bass, feels like about 7 pounds.

You can order them directly from Kevin Brubaker:
