For anyone that would like a Brute in the VA, MD or DC area (or anywhere else come to think about it!) Kevin has very generously donated a Brute as a prize at our GTG at the end of the month: Sunday, June 26th to be exact! You don't even need to be there to win!!

We've got some other great prizes too and Jens Ritter, Aram Bedrosian and of course Kevin! PM me if you need more details or check out the link in my sig

Here she is, my MJX-5 in Mediterranean. She is outfitted with Nordstrand J and MM5 pickups.

Way cool!

Hope you love it. Possibly might go up on the market when the new production run of Brutes arrives.

(I'm really jonesing for a Siberian White MJX-4)

tom :D

Mediterranean pickguard is my favorite standard one. The combo of black body with Mediterranean pg looks best to me.

I can't say I'm digging the knobs, but that's just me.

What's the preamp in it, btw?

I pulled all the electronics out to fix the j bass pickup and after I got it back in and the pickguard screwed down I realized I didn't look at the pre-amp to see what it was!

The previous owner told me he believed it was the original pre-amp but I'm not sure.

I'll have to pull it again soon and see.

Latest custom leather pickguard and strap from Imperial Wolf Leather.

Like that leather!

Now, does anybody know of a source for Brute pickguards? Kevin says it will be the end of August before he has them, if he gets any at all.

Quite honestly, I just can't see spending $250 for one of Kevin's custom pickguards. I'm sure they're nice, but I just can't see spending that much for a pickguard for these basses.

I'm still on the fence about converting my JJX to an MJX. I change my mind every day!

Guys, I too have just paid off a brute and I'm waiting for it to be shipped. Once I get it I'll post a pic and hopefully I can become a member of the Brute Club. Kevin was great in that he let me pay for it on time. It's probably one of the older ones but I don't care. I've been wanting a Brute for over a year now. It's a black on black MJX5. Who knows it may be the one Steve Jenkins played if he didn't buy it.

Finally got a pickguard! So I'm converting my JJX to an MJX using. Yanking the Barts and going with SGD pickups, they are phenomenal! I'm highly recommending these pickups. They cost about the same as Barts, but are a little more aggressive and Dave can make you about anything you want!

Dunno if it's just the pics(or my screen), but the bursts don't seem to match, kinda like seeing a bright white pickguard on a vintage(yellowed) white bass, just wrong, if they were the same shade, I can imagine it looking awesome.

Looked closer IRL. Plus Droid phone camera and a guy too lazy to learn how to take decent pics;)

This was also a fairly quick proof of concept. We talked about it, Kevin thought is was a good idea, went in the booth and shot the body. He may have already had that pickguard shot. So this is more about the idea than the execution. Hope that's okay.
