Bud LeCompte vs Hurricane Ike

It was a strange storm. Not much rain, but massive storm surge. When you're driving around and looking at the damage you see houses and shops with the roofs blown off, but in the middle of a cow pasture, some rickety old cow shed is still standing. As many trees as we have we were very forunate that nothing major happen to the house. A few lost shingles and that was it.

yeah. that was a helluva storm.

my gf's parents live in pearland. off of Fite, and they had power back on that sunday after the storm.

but where they live, theres underground power cables and the neighborhood is relatively new.

glad to see ya back in action!!

if history repeats itself, we wont see another storm like that for 20 more years! lol

The shop is fine.

We have a lot of ash trees in our yard, but they are Arizona ash. I don't think they're good for much. People plant them because they grow fast. But they only live about 25-30 years and are susceptible to parasites. They are are what took the most damage. Most of those limbs in the photos are ash limbs. It's been pretty dry this summer and the limbs were brittle. We have a couple of smaller maples that fared well along with a couple of large elm trees and a bunch of pecan trees that did well too. We have a large cottonwood that's leaning a degree or two now from the force of the wind. The roots popped and there are some good size holes around the base now where the ground sunk. I think the tree will be fine. My wife wants to have it cut it down because it drops "cotton" in the spring. I've seen some pretty bowls made out of cottonwood burl. I don't know if it would be any good for bass making.
