Bugera Nuke ?? Who's Bought One Yet????

I got on the Carvin band wagon years ago... Always been disappointed with something about them. Every piece of Carvin I've had, I've had to put in the shop for something. Not a great reputation with me.

I got two of their microphones. After about 4 years they were cutting out. So I figured it was cables. I spent $40 bucks for a cable tester to go through my wires. All of 'em were good. I got a new mic (Senheiser) and have never had an issue with my cables since. Turns out it was the damn mics. I had a Carvin horn go out on me. I called up Carvin. It was out of warranty so they quoted me a $80 price to replace the driver. I found the same driver at Parts Express for $2.50 a piece. I bought 6 to justify the shipping. Then I'd have some spares cause they used the cheapest parts money could buy.

The Bugera turned out awesome at the gig. My guitar player really liked the tone. Rich and subtle. It was loud but didn't destroy the mix. I had it pretty loud. Oh about the amperes... It has an 18 amp breaker. Which means the breaker in the box is liable to trip before the breaker in the amp. My guess, is it is about a 1500watt to 2000watt amp in real terms. But it's hard to judge watts, because of sooooo many variables. My SWR cabs are very efficient so I'll get more volume out of them than maybe even an Ampeg. But the Ampeg will add more colour to the sound because SWR prides itself in getting out of the way of the amp.

I love the amp so far... It's an animal! All my basses have their own character through it... which tells me they took great care in it's design. They created an amp that will allow you to get the most out of your bass. This is not one of their copy cats as far as I can tell. It is it's own creation and I love it.

Every company has gems, its just that Behringer/Bugera has a worse dud-to-gem ratio than other companies.

I would never testify to that... I've owned a lot of Behringer gear and I'd consider all of it a gem... especially when you factor in the cost. Some of the stuff I have is kinda like a Bic lighter... It's so cheap you just buy another one when it goes out. I've only had one piece ever go out. Big deal... I just buy another. Since it costs less than half the price of it's nearest competitor I'm still money ahead.

Now my experience with Carvin is not so possitive... but I know some people that are happy with that stuff.

I've had mine for over a year
and i have it hooked up to a Behringer 4x10 Ultrabass cab
I dont kno how much power it actually puts out
however i play electric upright bass also and I was playing a concert where i was the only bass and i could, lets say be VERY well heard over the band and my bass was turned half way up
and the amp was only turned up to 0.5 out of 10
it may not be pushin 3600 watts but its sure is LOUD!
and many a time when i play im told to turn down because the sound guy is the whole way up there PA and cant touch me aha :D
It is unnecesary by every means possible but you do get alot of people jeolous when they can almost taste your slap solos haha ;)

You got 4 years out of a $50 mic and you think you got scammed? With the kind of abuse microphones take seems fairly reliable to me.

Urgh... looked at the time stamps. Thanks for the heads up Johnny but I imagine people still feel the same way about these as they did in 2009 (myself included)

I have a couple SM58s I bought in 1994 that still work perfectly. Buy once, cry once (but $100 for a mic is still cheap).

i have one i use from the early 80's, have replaced the ball a few times , other than that , the cartridge has been rock solid, had 2 senhieser 835's crap out within about 18 months , good mics , just don't stand the rigors of a gig bag or gear bag very well

I know it's a bit OT, but the end of a broom handle works bitchen to push the dents out of a mic ball.
