Building and Modding

I wanna learn more about how to mod and build my own pedals.

I don't really know anything on the subject and actually I have no idea how pedals do what they do. I've opened up my pedals and looked at them but I'm not sure how all that stuff effects the sound the way it does!

Any links or guides that could help me? I want to be able to rehouse pedals or tweak a fuzz or OD to be more bass friendly. Eventually I'd like to build a pedal or two so it can be all mine and mine only :hiding:

just curious, what was the first pedal you modded and/or built?

The bazz fuss. Download his hackers guide to the breadboard. If you follow his steps in the guide you can build a Beavis board and the. Use it to make and mod your first circuits. They are basically the only pedal breadboard layouts and they are so awesome for getting started.

+1 to all of that!

The first thing I modded was an old boss ds-1. I ordered a monte allums kit for $25. About one month after I performed the mod, I realized all the mod really did was switch the clip section from diodes (I think) to led's. I then realized that I paid $25 for about $3 of parts. From then on I started ripping pedals open, reading schematics and order different parts to try on different pedals. After a while you start to recognize what the schematic or pcb board is saying exactly.

Alot of the pre-packaged kits from pedal building websites are really convienant. If you want to go the cheaper, and more exciting route, try Invalid Link Removed For me, the enjoyment from building/modding, comes from the learning experience and the possiblility to create something new. Kit take the fun out of it for me.
