Maybe my sentence was badly formulated (french guy speaking, here
) but yes, here in France, there was a real mystery around the musicians on "Histoire de Melody Nelson" that lasted until 2011. And even after this date and the photographic proof that you and Alan Parker were on the record, people still confuse you with other bassists. This is a topic that still comes up in forums.This album is considered by many as the best of French production and the bass playing is very often what people talk about first.
To go further, Sebastien Merlet in his Gainsbook evokes the first English recordings of Gainsbourg as well :
"The bass plays a decisive role in the stylistic evolution of Gainsbourg: from now on, that of Dave Richmond is undoubtedly his secret weapon".

The were supposedly purchased by someone, with the intention to re-open. But it's been a couple of years, and...crickets.

Lee Anderton talked about it in a recent video - basically it's all taking a lot longer than expected, and we shouldn't expect to see anything new for at least a year.

I think i saw this albino bison on his website years ago.
The morganite pots have been replaced on mine, I'm looking for original ones.

How does the sound compare between the three basses?
I saw you on YouTube demonstrating the Black Bison at Guitare Village and, although I have no idea what is being said [ cannot speak French unfortunately ], the bass sounds great. From there I found your band Le Sacre Du Timpan which is excellent. Do you use the Burns much on these recordings?

The Two black basses Sounds pretty similar, and the white is a little different. I used them on tour And also In studio, on post of Le sacre du Tympan recordings.
Early bisons from 62 and the last ones around 64, like the Albino i got, or your black one, to me they got the same electronics. 64 models got plastic knobs instead of steel knobs.

Sorry for this late answer.
The two black Bisons are earlier models maybe from 1962. They are the same tone. Bought them 15 or 20 years ago. For 1000 and 1500€ each. One of my main bass on stage and studio. Playing it with a pick and black nylon strings of course, but also fingers with bass B position (sounds like a double bass). The Albino Bison is from 1964 and it's a little different sound i think, the only difference is plastic knobs.

Reissues VS Original. Here is the Shadow bass "John Rostill Signature.
I owned and 1964 original for years, but never found the sound as good as i thought. I got several vintage Bisons, jazz bass, vista sonic, with lots of mojo but not this Shadow bass. So i have to sell it.
Few months later, close to my home, i tested a 2006 reissue version of the Shadow bass, and it was love at first sight! All the bad points of the original version are gone: goodbye to the rezo tube bridge (tunning was impossible), pickups are more accurate with the same colour as originals, 3 position switch changed to a 5 position. Three pickups, 5 position switch, just like a Strat' ! And last but not least, the second tone knob is a push-pull, so you can get the three pickups all together! The sound is pretty close to a vintage BISON with the famous A/B position and 4 position switch.
Wood is made in China, then everything crafted in UK.
This ELITE limited serie (only 500 ex. made) is AMAZING. To me, this is the first time that reissue is better than an original.
I am waiting now for a DAVE RICHMOND BLACK BISON SIGNATURE MODEL !!!!!!
