+1 to going someplace and playing a bunch of basses to see what you like best.
That said, I'll echo BTBplayer, Ibanez is a great way to go. I recently picked up an SR535 and for the price, I'm really happy with it. The Bartolinis are warm with lots of oomph in the low end, good midrange and a high end that sparkles but isn't over powering.
I've considered the SR530 (in pearl white), but I'm not sure how much difference there is in sound vs my SR400QM. It's kinda hard to tell being I can't play it through my system to compare the two.
