Yeah, I would be included in the group of people who made that assumption!
The other thing is that, as is sort of implicit, there is really very little that is "new." Moving coil drivers have been in use for over a century, and pretty much everything has been thought of.
As the years go by, I am amused every time somebody comes up with a bold new innovation which was also a bold new innovation 20 or more years ago. It happens all the time.
So, to me, it's mainly about trying to have the best understanding of the existing body of knowledge, and doing a good job of execution. Ultimately, in the area of moving coil loudspeakers, there is precious little which could be considered particularly new. It's all been done before, and by smarter people than we are!
