Cabronita Cantina

I’ve got a La Cabronita Boracho inbound. I know they are rare, probably for more than one reason, but does anybody have one? Or other experience with that model?
Ahhh huh!!!! So jelly! I got really close to grabbing one that passed through my favorite shop but decided to pass only because previous owner drilled for a thumb rest above the pickup. I know it's a small niggle, especially on something road worn anyway and all but all I could focus on was the dang holes right in the middle of the baron real estate. Otherwise, it was majestic. Please share photos when you get it!

I think I saw the one with holes for the the thumb rest... CME and maybe a place called Dave's. I pulled the trigger on this one today...

Nice!! That looks really fun. And yes, it was at Dave's...he's my pal of many years. I'm really drawn to those as I had one of the Pawnshop Reverse Jaguar basses for a bit

and really liked it, but it got flipped and I haven't found another I liked. Only beefs were a bit of crooked shirt and restricted access to most upper frets foofery. The Boracho is similar but with Cabronita awesome sauce stirred in! Ergo, it must be super business. Then there is the Abuelo Cabronita too but that's out of the depth of my wallet.

But trust me, I'm vicariously excited about the inbound Boracho! Looking forward to your thought on it when it arrives.

to be frank... I drooled over the abuelo the first time I saw it. You’re correct, too much.

The one from Dave’s was also for sale at CME... not sure of the order or who traded what and when.

Mine arrived today... photos above... it’s very cool and the tone is amazing! Like nothing else I have in my arsenal. I was a bit concerned about some of relicing and since they had a new one, I asked for photos of it as well. The things that concerned me were factory relics and the new one was worse. This one is a beast.

Im not sure when or which band gets it, but it’s got to be in the rotation.

Fantastic...glad it worked out. I can say it sure looks sexy! Congrats good sir and enjoy.

I had it in today for a truss rod adjustment and a shim. It plays buttery smooth now. I took a couple of photos when the neck was off. A couple are logical and clear. A couple, not so much. I found it interesting that the neck was marked as a Parrazzo which I think was the previous year. I’m guessing the pocket may indicate something to the effect of made in June? Is the Rm initials? Maybe it doesn’t matter, but I find it mildly interesting.

Pretty sure that RM is the factory designator for Really Mighty.

Imagine a reverse Jaguar with a deeper cutaway for more fret access. Fender Thunderjaguar

If there is a downfall on this bass, it’s access to the frets above 14 or 15. It’s a new hand position to get there.

There’s a guy that works there, plays a nice Schechter and is in to metal. He was like “what kind of frankenbass is that!!??” LOL... It’s definitely a beast.

That’s a beauty. Do you mind if I ask who did the pinstriping?
Thanks! I was lucky to find a legendary pin striper on the west side of Cincy, James "Dauber" Farr. Originally I thought I'd go to a custom bike shop but googled and found Jim, the first pin striper in the Drag Racing HOF. Gave him little direction and told him to do what he wanted. And all for less than a C note!

I didn't realize that beautiful stripe work was so reasonably done. What a guy! But that said, I would have struggled with not having an amp, case, pedals, heck my face even all stripped up LOL...a cat, TV, etc. But your bass is just right!

Why did you have to bring up a matching case & amp!?!?!? Nope...........not gonna let temptation get the best of me.........but that would be a killer setup.:D

Yep, I was shocked at the price. And not only did he do the pin striping, he also went back over each line w/ a clear coat.

Since this thread has been updated recently, thought I'd add the latest pics of my customized MIM Cabronita. Complete w/ TV Jones ThunderBlade [bridge, w/ curved blades and higher output] and custom pin stripes.

Looks amazing! Do you mind if I ask what strings you have on there? I put in the exact same pickup, and I have a set of La Bella 760FS on right now. I love all the strings but the E, which sounds muted compared to the others, even really digging in or playing with a pick. The only other strings I've had on it are the rounds it came with (did not like) and a set of GHS Pressurewounds, which taught me that I like rounds or flats but not something in between. Anyway, just curious what you're working with!

Thanks! All my basses sport TI flats. TI's always seem to bring out the best.

I've been the owner of a Squier Cabronita bass since they came out. Mine was black...then went to a years long sonic blue phase. Now it kinda looks like this. Yeah, little blotchy, but wow...i love it.

Can't wait to build it up again. It sports a tv jones thunderblade pup, reverse tuning nickel tuners.
