Cali76 18v mA requirements and Trutone CS6

I'm sorry if this is obvious, but I'll ask anyway.

I have the Cali76 CB and and I'm thinking of getting a Trutone cs6. I'm not sure if it will power the compressor at 18v correctly.

I think it's 300 mA output at 9v, not sure when switched to 18v. I don't know how much it drops the milliamps.

The Cali76 requires 104 mA at 18v.
Is anyone powering there's a calie76 with a CS6 or similar power supply?

The CS6 gives you 1600ma total, no matter what output you use. So just don't exceed that.

So even though each port says 9v at 300 mA, it really doesn't matter as long as long as I don't go over 1600 mA? I knew the one spot adapters worked like that but didn't know the isolated power supplies did, what with them putting 300 on each port.

Yep, that's how they work. The only reason there are ma ratings on each port is because they had to put something there due to regulations or something.

I think your original assumption is correct - that’s a by product of isolated power circuits. The draw on one circuit is “isolated” from the draw on other circuits.

But it seems like w/ 300 mA you’re good to go with either 9 or 18 Volts.

Are the the outputs on the CS-6 isolated? On other power supplies it means that this port is essentially its own adapter. Where the CS-6 is effectively a 1Spot daisy chained to the outputs that have a voltage selection capability and maybe some filtering. (Not poo-pooing the CS-6, I have one.)

I had a long discussion on TGP with the Truetone guys years ago about isolation on the CS series. Ended with an hour phone call with the head engineer explaining isolation to me. Yes, the ports are isolated. The ratings are extremely conservative on each port as well. I've been using a CS12 and a CS6 on different boards with no issue. I still use the ratings as a guideline, but you can exceed the marked numbers.

I wonder what the effect of inrush current is on the stability of loads at or past the max rating for a given output. I had a few pedals daisy chained to a 100ma output on my CS6. By the numbers, the pedals drew 99ma, but when powering on all the pedals on that output would flicker on and off continuously. Removing a 15ma pedal made the chain stable, putting it back in caused the problem again.

I’m wondering if the total inrush load for the whole power supply at power up was starving that one output, and if one of the pedals in that chain was particularly vulnerable to being stuck in an unstable condition, compromising the whole chain. I don’t recall what the pedals were anymore. :/

This is a good question i don't know the answer to. I suspect if your pedal is 150mv and you're running off of a 100mv output, you'll be fine. Multiple pedals may complicate things.

I'm currently running a Peterson Strobostomp HD -> Aria Parametric EQ -> BOSS BC-1x chain from a 500mv output with no issues. But I also chose a 500mv output to avoid the kind of thing you're describing.

Oh my mistake, I was assuming that on a dedicated power supply that the taps where isolated. If they are not, then yes the available current is just one big pool for all taps to draw from.
