Caline CP-59 Driver DI

CP-59 or CP-60?
The CP-59 arrived yesterday. Things are hectic at work so I've only had a short time playing about with it.

First thing I noticed is the XLR out is bloody loud  When I get time over the weekend I'll gauge it against some other DI/preamps. First other DI I laid hands on was the trusty old Behringer, the Caline kicks out more signal by a wide margin.

Would love to post more but I'm deadbeat so it's an early night.

My CP-60 is here.

First impression after unboxing: This thing seems built like a tank. It's solid and it's heavy and the knobs don't feel weak when they are turned.

I plugged it into my practice amp..a Roland Micro cube..after a few minutes I plugged into the mono auxiliar input to bypass all the emulations and fx.

As a clean tube emulation preamp, it really excels...Last sunday I replaced the preamp tube of my Hartke HA3500 and surprinsingly this pedal sounds very close to the tube section of my amp...and a little quieter than my Hartke I must say..

The eq works well and if you turn the Harmonics knob all the way up it's noisy..(like the real Sansamp)

As a drive pedal, sorry guys.. this pedal is useless. It doesn't do nothing until you turn it up to 4 o'clock..and then , it goes from a subtle drive to full on fuzz. It's not progressive .

I tried with my MIJ passive Fernandes with steel strings and I really liked a lot the clean tone..
With my Harley Benton 6 strings with nickel strings, meh.. (I used in passive mode, I'll try in activo mode later)..

Tomorrow I'll take it to a rehearsal and I'll try it with my giggin basses to see how does it work and test the XLR output...I

I'll keep this pedal only if it sounds ok with my active Fender MIJ P bass.

I got some time this afternoon.

For £26 delivered the CP-59 is a good clean tone pedal however there are there are plenty others out. The Behringer BDI21 beats it hands down for the driven tube sound, actually the BDI21 should be in every players bag.

At £16 folks worried about them breaking I advise to buy 2

Afraid I didn't feel too excited about the Caline which is a shame, their Orange Burst and Hot Mushroom are both good pedals. The 10 band EQ they sell is another worthy bit of kit.

Will see about a revisit in the next week or so.

Interesting! The CP-60 seems to be better like than the CP-59.
Tom. Don't think I gave the CP-59 a fair go. My mate played around with it and the short video sounded grand :-)

Like myself he was going for a clean tone. I found the CP-60 has more grit which you blend in to taste.

The eejit set the video to private so will see how I can link to it.

That would be great Davie.

I have a BDI21 which is a great backup for when I gig but would love to find something just as cost efficient but with better build quality and ideally a better stock drive sound.

I have a Caline CP-60 'Wine Cellar'. Cost including shipping was about $25 USD from AliExpress. I've now compared it against a Behringer BDI21, Zoom B3 and now the new Sansamp model in the HX Stomp. I've got to say, the Caline does a spot-on impression but I've yet to try it against the real thing. The weird thing with mine is the XLR is actually a bit quiet but a user above noted that his was too loud. Also the XLR socket is really tight. I guess you take a gamble with the quality of these cheaper clones. You might get a dud but I'm pretty happy with mine! I prefer it over the Behringer because of the metal casing but the Behringer definitely has the better XLR out.

My custom compressor/overdive/DI will arrive this week and I've been trying pedals in order to see if if I keep them or sell them...

I plugged my Joyo Ultimate Drive into the Wine Cellar and the result was interesting...It seems like it can be a good pedal to be the last in the pedal chain. It adds some warmth and low end to the overdrive

I'll keep it trying with different pedals before it.. Id doesn't work the way I thought , but it may work in another way...

update:

I just bought an used Fernandes Tremor 5 strings. It has a high output humbucker pickup. I plugged it into the Wine Cellar and suddenly it became a different pedal. Now the drive knob seems to be more usefull and progressive. Now I can get that classic "sansamp crunch" from this pedal.

Hello,

Does anyone can explain the use of the switch "change gain" / "gnd lift" on caline CP-59 ?
Does that mean if you switch ground lift on, you can't change gain ? if you're able to change gain, you can't ground lift ? I don't understand. Otherwise, can somebody explain the sound difference between CP-59 and CP-60 ?
I use a Precision copy with passive P pickup. Thanks
