Look guys, it's quite simple...

Does your bass have an alder or poplar body? If so, get Rosewood.

If the body is Swamp Ash, you go Maple all the way.

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

Fretboard wood is extremely important when selecting the color of the pickguard. Otherwise...

Maple or Rosewood depends on what the bass I wanted came with-- I wasn't given a choice.

I happen to have two rosewood and two maple, and I like them both.

I don't believe fret wood makes a difference in the sound/tone at all.

I would go with whatever looks best with the paint on the body / pick guard.

This. Choose your fret board for aesthetics.
I find no real tonal advantage of one wood over the other. They can all feel a little different under your fingertips, though.
Usually, I prefer rosewood or ebony just because they are easier to maintain in terms of a little oil to cure dehydration or a little scrubbing to clean a filthy fretboard.
