CALLING ALL TBers! FIELD TRIP FOR STATISTICS!

This is a request for all TBers to head to your local GuitarCenter and record the serial number of the Gretsch Electromatic G5123B Hollowbody bass there (if there's one there, at all).

This is a very limited run bass, and we'd like to get an idea of how many were made. Since these are doorbusters made especially for GC, this makes our job easy (with your help, of course). All we need to do is go to various GCs, get the serial numbers off the G5123B's there, and put them in order. That should give us a *fairly* accurate idea of how many of these bad boys there are :)

Here's a picture of the bass, so you'll be able to recognize it easily once you get in the store.

They won't be in the back, they won't be in a case. They'll be on the floor, in the bass room, on a stand where you can readily pick them up and play them.

The serial number is handwritten on the label inside the body, as well as stamped on the back of the headstock with "Made in Korea"

THANK YOU in advance, TB, for taking part in this nationwide field trip!

Anticipating the turnout,
-A few TBers who own this beautiful instrument :)

gack...i was just at a GC about 2.5 hours from me yesterday and even picked it up and played it for a min. Won't be back there for a few weeks now. Rats!

Edit: Might consider putting the name of the town of the GC next to the serial, so that other TB's don't duplicate on accident.

According to Guitar Center these were a limited edition, one time only deal and only selected stores recieved ONE. Which means out of 216 stores some were left out.

So in theory, there should be a difference of less than 216 from beginning to end of the serial number range

At one time, the info of units in stores and those in transit to stores equaled around 110.

So in theory there should be between 110 and 215 out there.
Let's do our best to locate every one and make sure a TB member owns it. Let's change it from a GC exclusive to a TB exclusive!

If you see one in a store sneak a note into the SKU pocket about TB.com:D

Remember, Pilgrim said after the Black Friday event, there was a new shipment of 90 being sent out to 'select stores', so I'm guessing several stores saw 2 or maybe more of these, just not at the same time.

But what if the factory didn't number them consecutively? What if they were made in batches over more than one assembly line?

There would still be a certain number of serials assigned to each line, and they would run consecutive to one another. I've never seen an assembly plant that did not operate in such a manner.

If some were MIK and some made elsewhere, that would make a little more sense, but the K in KSxxxxxxxx, I'm pretty sure, stands for Korea.

I have a coupon sitting in my inbox for 15% off purchases of $299 or more and it SAYS Gretsch is excluded in the fine print, but I promise, they'll apply the coupon :) Should bring it down to $679.99 plus sales tax :bassist: I wish they'd been running a special when I decided to buy mine... But, I'm glad I got it when I did. Guy at GC said there were 3 or 4 people in there looking for it the next week.

The GC in Eugene Oregon had what I am sure is one of these a few weeks ago. The day I saw it they had just unpacked it and their Bass Guy was checking it out closely. I was in there again about five days ago and I don't recall seeing it, may have been sold. I might swing by there today and take another look.

but alas, I'm out of town and won't be back by there for another 4 or 5 weeks.

If anyone can go by there, it's not in the bass room or in the high end area, it's on a stand in the middle with the bass effects.

Good luck with the project..
