That's probably a very good Idea. The pickups don't have screws, well they screw in, but they are Hex-nut topped screws.

There are a couple Northern California luthiers that might possibly be able to recognise bass. Don't know for sure but always worth a try. Bob Groat and Michael Dolan. I don't believe they post here but you can Google them.

With the cutaway, it does the "Slap/Pop" thing real good!

That Headstock does look like "EP" or "CP"...but when I look closer the left half looks like a Violin, and the right side looks sort of like a Moai Head looking right....--and-- if you look at the WOOD between them, it looks like a moai head looking left!

I suppose in stead of saying "Violin", I should say "Stand up BASS"!!!

Very distinctive looking bass. Also looks very well made and pretty too. Someone here should be able to ID it. I'd bet that was in the neighborhood of $1500-2500 new, at least. Of course most custom basses drop significantly when you walk out the door with them.

How much are they asking?

Good call, tell guy I bought from said the original price was $2700. Probably in the 1990's.

Dang that's gorgeous. Nice find, like we all fantasize about finding, but rarely do, the Case Queen. If it plays as well as it looks, I'm envious.

I play 5 String Bass...Fender American Deluxe or Sadowsky's, and there's a Custom Shop I'm seeing that'll fit my Country Band perfectly...so I'm putting this up for sale.

I sure thought some expert here on Talkbass would have this Bass pegged by now. I'll have a certified Fender tech look under the pickups soon...and do a set up. We might have to look behind the Pre-amp as well. The views and comment are great, thanks to all who respond!

Sure, this is an amazing Bass, and I made a good deal...--and--got it out in the open. I'm not stuck on that price, but I have to start somewhere. I'm one who thinks a great Bass should go up in Value, not down...this Bass in still in excellent condition after 26 years. (But the real reason? I need to raise 2000 to score a Bass I see, that I'd play at every gig, --a 5 String. Any help towards that would be great! Make an offer!)

By the way, The pre-amp is a Volume for each pickup, and then the 3 band EQ. It's really cool. 18 Volt.

I've seen those pictures before, possibly on this site. The description referenced a custom build from CA. If I find the original reference I'll post again.
