Well I drove up to a place out in the wilderness's of Mendocino Co. --I bought it. It didn't work until I put Batteries in it this Morning. I still have no idea of what it is.

Congrats on your score. IMHO, that bass was made by a true pro and I'll say again "That thing is simply gorgeous". Well thought out, complicated woodwork but nothing is out of place, great looking choice of woods. It looks like there's a metal backing plate in the control pocket for a ground plain and it has no rough edges. Pro workmanship. Preamp on a real pcb with 18V supply. It has at least one trim pot (maybe for overall gain) and what looks to be four inductors that can be adjusted for value. If they are inductors they would most likely be used to adjust the eq. I bet it plays andsounds as good as it looks.
Edit: The PCB is surface mount technology and if it was made in the 90s it was very expensive. Be interesting to know how many were made.

There are quite A few bay area guys on here and specifically Santa Cruz guys if it was made there they should be able to ID it I'll try and look a couple up.

No problem! I just happen to follow a MAS cab thread which has a couple of guys from the area. There are several others I can't think of now.
I called the guy I got it from again. He got it from the original owner 14 years ago...and that the original owner said it was $2700 new. --That was a lot of money back in the 90's!

From the looks of the pictures the bass is clear coated with a satin finish. Should need very little maintenance. I would not use "Lemon Oil". All the commercial brands are just mineral oil with some lemon scent and true lemon oil is acidic and very expensive. Without knowing what finish was used I'd only recommend using a damp cloth to clean it.
The intent was sound, but the execution lacking.

The only luthier I used was C Keller. He might recognize the style if produced locally. He is an infrequent poster here. I can't remember his moniker.
I don't actually know if it was made in Santa Cruz...but the original owner lived there.
That Headstock does look like "EP" or "CP"...but when I look closer the left half looks like a Violin, and the right side looks sort of like a Moai Head looking right....--and-- if you look at the WOOD between them, it looks like a moai head looking left!
