Almost allways, when I´m practicing, I think about like"You´re ****, You suck, You can´t play anything right, so TRAIN MORE".This way it feel´s great when someone, who´s better than I,says "not bad, not bad at all, in fact You play very well".

I have been playing for about 15 years myself and believe that I am decent in my own right. I know that there are people out there that can easily play circles around me. Everybody has their own defenition of good so to me it is more of a relative term. I think that Victor Wooten is great for his overall technical ability, but I find myself listening to somone more like Tony Levin or someone to me who is a musical god, Paul Mcartney. I feel a good bassist is someone who fits in well within the dynamics of a group and complements a song with his/her playing.

"Good" in someone's words may "suck" in someone else's. Styles and techniques of playing bass differ greatly. One may be excellent at playing jazz or progressive,and not know two riffs of a heavy metal style. To me,a good bass player is someone who can play many styles and variations of music. Metal,rock,blues,jazz,progressive,punk,R & B,hip hop,technotics,industrial,classic rock and so on. Not saying you have to know many styles to be a good bassist. Being close-minded about music won't get you far.

Although I particularly play rock and metal; I learned some jazz and blues and such to open new horizons in my playing style. So,a note to those of you who only favor one style or one bassist's style in particular,look around and open your ears to new things. Even if you don't like it at first,give it time! Peace,Luke

ok i mean this this is the truth all the kids in my town i am better then all the play is korn.i been trying to play good music i can slap ,play funk and pretty much what i like .i been trying to play jazz but i know it will take for ever

I have excellent meter, and I can pick up a cover on one try, if I've heard of the song. Not just the changes ... all the notes, more or less. But if the ad says "Must have great chops," I don't answer.
