Can anyone recommend a cheap practice head?

BTW - I also agree that the old Peavey Mark amps are solid. If you don't have to carry it around, one of them would work great.

Like the OP, my band practice amp is a 80's Bassman 120 combo. It's 120W into a single 15...bulky to move around, but I can leave it at the practice space and not worry about it.

If you throw portability out the window, anything Peavey is good. Such as: a Deltabass. I think it's 160 watts.

One bump because I'm still looking for a practice head only.

Just bought a Line 6 M13, so I'm looking cheap.
It doesn't have to be but 60-100 watts.
Can be old and heavy and beat up. So long as it works.

It's just to keep from lugging my LH1000 around, so it's not an absolute necessity. I want it for individual practice in my home studio. I have a 115w combo for band practice, and my Hartke for stage.

I'm not picky as to brand or age. Almost bought an Acoustic 200w, but owner decided to keep it. Cheapest I have found are Behringer 180w and Hartke 140w, but those were $160+, and in really good condition. I need something more beat up than that (read cheaper). :)

old Peaveys as mentioned. I also own a Traynor Mono Block II (paid $125.00), it hangs with SVT's no problem, killer head. I also have an old Yamaha B100II (looks like a vintage bassman head sort of), it's only 100w but man is it sweet, got it for $150.00.

Crate powerblock goes for about $100 on CL used. Use a pedal like a sabbdi (or behringer copy for $30) to bypass the preamp (not necessary but sounds better). Its a guitar amp but has been successfully used as a bass amp. 150w into 8 ohms. 5LBS.

Another thought. Sell your heavy Hartke and get a GK MB500 or LMII, or Shuttle 6 and keep it in your bass bags outer pocket.

Thanks for suggestions, guys.

JMac: PM sent.

Not getting rid of my Hartke. Larry and I go way back. I'm a Hartke man, and I love the sound of it. Been playing loooooong time, and have owned most of all the big name stuff (incl GK), and I like the Hartke clean with flat settings (flat for Hartke, anyway). Best customer service anywhere. Getting ready for Hydrives. If I get a practice head, I won't have to touch the LH1000. It will stay in the trailer, which stays in a garage.

I have demo'd a Power Block with guitar. Never tried it with bass. Loud!

Thanks again. Keep the suggestions coming.
