Well, I have heard on more than one occasion that parents who were buying their child's first car for them would get an SUV because it would be safest for when they get into an accident.

I know this isn't the case with all.

and I've got 3 jobs this summer so I can save enough cash to buy my first car... a '97 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport... I doubt it would fare well in an accident with a big truck, but I wanted something that could handle much better. :) Driving an ext. Aerostar in Miami, FL can really improve the reflexes

Well Brad Cook, after reading many of your posts on talkbass, Brad Cook, I have come to the conclusion that Brad Cook - you are not the most tolerant person around. Brad Cook. Brad Cook you seem to get defensive quite often, and Brad Cook you also seem to try to knock everyone that doesn't accept your skewed ideals. Brad Cook. You drive a big car, don't you Brad Cook. I mean I'm a pretty annoying guy, but you really don't take things well at all. And you also do make a lot of obnoxious comments - see above - so it would be a little hypocritical of you to ask me to stop.

On a side note, people may have noticed that it is my inherent nature to stir up trouble, and with topics that involve people in the central USA talking about handguns, 4x4s and worship music, I can't help myself. So I've really been cheating and I'll stop. I promise to do my best not to antagonise people, starting from the next post I make (not this one, obviously). The exception being the unstoppable Brad Cook, whose lyrical prose and incisive commentary really makes me want to remove my appendix with a spoon.

Sorry to the guy who started this thread, about off-track comments. But please consider a normal car - subaru make some good all-wheel-drive cars (wagons with 2 litre twin-turbo engines if you thought wagons were slow). If you NEED a 4x4 then I can't argue.

I lived in the USA for 2 years, so I'm not just some hick on an island in the middle of nowhere.

And Brad Cook...I tried not to stereotype Americans - the greta majority of people in this country and just about every other country in the world seem to think Americans are ALL stupid and ignorant, and generally I argue against that, as I made some good friends in the USA. But threads on this site are definitely persuasive enough to reinforce the assumptions previously made. That and the president..... :eek:

Wow. I'm glad you generaly argued against that. That is a completely stupid thing to think. I would hope "the greater majority of people in New Zealand and just about every other country in the world" are smarter than that.


Anyway, Mike i bet if you realy put your mind to it, you could get all the money you need to buy your car without having to work for it. Or maybe not. But I think this thread is a good start.

I hope you don't think living in one part of the US for a few years gives you any idea of the whole country. There are many different "subcultures" in the US. For example, do you think people in San Francisco generally have the same kinds of ideas and values as people in the Deep South or the Midwest? Do you think those in the Northeast and those in LA are identical? I think not simpy.
