Please check my youtube channel and if you have tips to improve my playing i would really appreciate them, thanks.
I'm 47 and have been playing bass (fretted, fretless and double bass) in and out of professional situations since 1980. I'm a scientist by day, but I've also made bass much more than a hobby (although I enjoy it most when it is just a hobby). Based on your youtube viddy, my observations/suggestions are these:
1. You've obviously got some skill, particularly in your right hand, which is good.
2. You've also got decent-sized hands, which can help you, but it can also leave you prone to injury; especially since your fingers are long, but your hands are a bit small in relation to finger length.
3. Stand up when you play. Generally, 99% of rock and roll gig situations involve standing and interacting with the band. It's fine to mess around on the couch and keep your fingers moving, but when really practicing (alone), rehearsing (done with others), or performing, you need to breathe properly and have yourself on top of the instrument, not buried behind it.
4. Lose the coat and any other encumberances when practicing. Also, get your arms up off of the bass and your left thigh. Standing will fix 90% of this. What I saw was someone with some talent and skill coiled into what looked like a comfortable position for relaxing, but one that was not conducive to letting you have freedom on your instrument.
5. I also noticed that while your fingers appear to be fairly long, you really reached with your fingering pinky while the rest of your hand was fairly tightly cramped around the index, middle, and ring fingers. You need to learn to lift your left elbow away from your body to reduce the length that you need to stretch the pinky finger. Try to space out your fingers a bit more so that your left hand is a bit more spread open rather than closed.
Just some thoughts - and I mean them in the most constructive way possible. Different things work for different people, so discuss these with your teacher.
