Can you identify this bass?

Look, man, if it’s got a single split-P pickup in the sweet spot, it’s a P-bass. What a bunch of shallow, overly appearance-conscious people, pressuring it to conform, jeez. It might have a really nice personality and be a lot of fun to be with, but y’all wouldn’t know, because you just didn’t take the time to get to know it.

I don’t think the builder was in on the joke.

I actually think it’s a highly opinionated and intentional bass. The j pup placement, while not without precedent, is pretty bold. The 24-fret design is confident. The strings are very specific. It’s using some nice Birdseye maple on the top. The EMGs definitely make me think some of these opinions are forged in metal.

I suspect the builder or the client, perhaps someone named Peter, had a treatise in mind. “This is not a silly bass. All other basses are silly.” :banghead:
