To answer your question: I don't know. I DO know that MY Ric has never been nor will it ever be slapped.

It is my humble opinion that slap is the single worst thing to to happen to the art of bass playing. Hate it.

I used to have a Ric. From time to time I gave it a time out, but I never slapped it and I always first explained WHY it was getting the time out.
