Let it Go. With a BS reason given like that, you don't want the answer. It may have been that it is a style thing, they really may have blamed it on your wife, but in either case, it still remains that asking why will result in more BS, and, more than likely, reveal stupidity..
Unless your wife broke her hip beating the other members of the band with a dead cobra, sumthin just aint right here.
Probably has a lot to do with puppies.
Thankfully, the only "Praise Band" I ever played with (for several years) was a very tight bunch that didn't let the church politics affect us.
Yeah, a few of the players in the rotation weren't that great, a couple of the singers were a little flaky, but luckily, there were enough really strong "regulars" that it all worked. Overall a very positive experience for me, especially since my teenage son was in it playing a Hammond SK1, as usually the "third" keyboard player, and the BL, a sixty-year-old keyboardist and singer extraordinaire, was patient and full of encouragement with guidance for my son. This BL was really a product of the 70's rock/ Motown /Beach scene, and encouraged the wailing Hammond backgrounds.
This is the good stuff folks, regardless of how many of you are reflexively biased against all faith-based everything, especially if it's US based and involves Christians. I understand the counter-culture lure, however.

I've been playing on my local praise team since 2008, and it's been an amazing, positive journey. I've grown to know and love many people and it's been a huge blessing in my life.
We have an amazingly talented group of musicians who are unified in our love of our purpose to serve. I'm sorry to hear your story of how you were abruptly dismissed- just wanted to reassure you that not all churches and worship teams are like that. No church is perfect (we are all flawed) but I've experienced nothing but love, and freedom of expression to worship freely and I'm so blessed to be a part of it. Couple that with an amazing worship leader (he's an engineer by day, with a music minor and a huge heart) and it's the joy of my life every week to be part of it. I hope this one bad experience doesn't make you give up on church completely. Wishing you the best!!

Well I have an update from the BL.
I was just now told that I'm serving the devil by staying with my wife and that our friendship is over. Also, they don't think I could hang with the bigger gigs.
All I know is that for as long as I've been playing bass, I've wanted to be playing on the big stage and doing studio work. I take pride in my bass playing by making the song sound the best it can be.
So to the BL get over yourself, it's your loss.

EXACTLY what I was getting ready to quote (minus the worship leader being an engineer; ours is a safety leader). There are still a LOT of good people and a lot of good praise teams out there. None of us are perfect; we all have our flaws. I have no idea why they would have done you like that. But I do know who holds tomorrow, and He will lead you through anything that comes into your life. He just simply asks you to trust Him with it. Praying for you brother.
I'm going to try out for another praise and worship band that I was made aware of since I liked being able to play in church.
If not, I guess I could try out for a country or southern gospel band since I love me some good old country music.

I always thought a band was about the actual band members, not their families. I could see it if I was a Jerk or something but I'm an easy going guy.

It is funny how the praise band are becoming pop bands. In recent years with the crisis in music industry, the music moguls are investing in Christian bands and every body is taking the bait. For me palaying in church is a privilege, I play for free. I'm not saying that if the church give me some bucks for fuel or buying gear I will not take it but creating a Christian band or change the band to make profit is kind a low for me. Just move on there's a plenty of band that need bassists.
Well I called a guy that was playing bass (that I replaced) in the band I just got fired from. Turns out that he needs a bass player cause he's playing guitar (his main instrument) in his praise group.
My first practice is Tuesday night since we have a gig coming up in a couple of weeks.
