A few years ago I was in a band where they told me how much they loved my playing, and the next thing I know I see they are advertising for a bass player. After calling the band leader and finally reaching his wife (who's in the band) I'm told I didn't fit in because I didn't hang out and schmooze with the band after rehearsals. If I had to do it all over again, I would never have called them to find out the reason, because it's not worth getting on your hands and knees and begging to know why. As you had no problem finding a new situation, my advice is to be happy with that and move forward, don't dwell on the past.

I want to serve The Lord in my playing and to have someone (like this bandleader) pass judgement on me doesn't seem right. Unless he's God himself, I don't think he should judge somebody.

I was clean and neat, doing them a favor. What do clothes have to do with church. KMA, My friend was kind of embarrassed. A few years later he got laid-off and on the same day his wife asked for a divorce. He ended up committing suicide less than two years after that because of custody issues.

Sorry about your friend, thanks for presenting irrefutable evidence of why any faith is a dead-end. I feel educated beyond my stupidity now.

I'm sorry for your loss.
I always thought church was about serving The Lord but it seems to be a popularity contest a lot these days. If you don't walk out of a church feeling better than when you walked in, then it might be time to find another church.
It does make me question why this supposedly Christian band leader would fire me for my family situation. What ever happened to a band being about just the band members and how well they worked together?....

I was just now told that I'm serving the devil by staying with my wife and that our friendship is over.

Maybe playing along with CDs isn't such a bad thing. At least then I'm playing with the best.

I'm going to try out for another praise and worship band that I was made aware of since I liked being able to play in church.
If not, I guess I could try out for a country or southern gospel band since I love me some good old country music.
