You have probably heard me whine about my lost Capt. Beyond debut...which I received Xmas morning 1972...which was the same morning I got my first bass.
In the early '80s, a friend borrows my LP...moves to Italy...comes back 2-3 years later with no recollection of ever borrowing the LP.
I still have Sufficiently Breathless on LP...never bought Dawn Explosion from the late '70s...I was into my early Jazz-Nazi daze by then.
Earlier 2013, I bought the debut (again) on LP...vintage pricing...so I could frame & hang on my music room wall.

Did you have the limited edition 3D cover of the first Captain Beyond album? Sadly, mine is not.

Great stuff! When I was growing up in Dallas-Ft. Worth in the early 70s, you were considered a bad**s drummer and/or bass player if you could navigate all those time changes!
The one I had...yes.
The one I recently bought to-be-framed? Absolutely.
As mentioned above, I got my 1st bass that same Xmas. Listening to "Dancing Madly Backwards"...and thinking:
Where does one even begin to play that???
The recording quality of the last one was a little suspect, but I'll pick them up the new ones when they come out.

Amazing videos! Thanks for the link. I have been a big fan of CB since high school and I had the first album on vinyl. My oh my, that takes me back.
Captain Beyond is great and if you like them definitely check out the stuff from Deep Purple's original lineup. Nicky Simper was a groovey bass player too.

On the last live album Evans mentions they would be playing at "mega death" volume, might be one of the first times that phase was coined.Have to have the holographic cover. Was a great band that music still kicks butt today. The lyrics don't hold up as well today. Their second LP was great as well just different.

I am lucky enough to be aware of CB before this post but- after not hearing them for years- those dudes were on it!! Check it out 1972!!
Speaking of little-known under-rated Prog-Rock check out Rare Bird. They put out several albums between 1969 and the mid-70's with John Wetton becoming involved at one point. The first two Albums from 1969 and 1970 are essential listening. Bass player Steve Gould sings lead and no guitar player. Oh, and Electric Pianist Dave Kaffinetti became Viv Savage in Spinal Tap.
