The drawback of a car sub is low sensitivity, i.e., you won't get a lot of volume. Secondly, they don't produce much midrange. Car subs really are specialized for their use, as are musical instrument / pro audio drivers.

Bad idea. Car subs can be really loud in a car, but they're not full range speakers. They have no high end, and little in the way of mids, either. They're also made to fill a fairly small space (the inside of a car) with sound. I would not expect them to do that well in other applications.

Totally different design. Subwoofers are only meant to carry low frequencies.... Bass guitar speakers are full range.

Bass guitar speakers are tighter and provide punch along with some low end.

Don't do it!

I got one in a package deal off craigslist along with a 2x10 Peavy cabinet, and the guy just wanted me to take the car sub, it is a 15". It is not what you want for a bass, no doubt. Paid $40.00 for both. Peavy cabinet sounds great for what it is.
