Double Bass Cars for bass (DB forum thread)

Chef, I got the 5 speed, although after the fact I was reading that the auto tranny may actually get better mileage because it's geared higher than the manual. Mine tachs at around 3500 at 70 mph. It's probably negligible. We also have a 5 speed Honda Element, which has the Accord 2.4L 4-cyl engine, and it has the same rpm at 70mph. I've got 2500 miles on the Scion, and it's holding at about 35 mpg around town.

My full size bass fits nicely in my '06 Toyota Prius. I can fit the bass, two people, and my amp. Oh, and I average 45 to 50 mpg.

I used to have a '91 Honda Civic that was a great bass car as well. I was able to fit my flight case, one person, and our luggage in that baby! I had to tie the hatch down to pull that one off.

Another Prius owner here. I have been able to haul two basses and one passenger with a little ingenuity. Have also
been able to transport one bass and two passengers(plus two violins).

I drive a Toyota Matrix. I can my bass my 5 month old son (car seat and all) plus a passenger with plenty of room to spare. The D rings in the back are great for strapping the bass and stool in, keeps them from sliding around. I get about 32 mpg driving around town. I just drove a 400 mile road trip from Asheville NC to Richmond Va and got 35.75 mpg.

Subaru forester....2 basses, 1 2 x 10 cab + head, a music stand, a dolly and a drum kit. No I couldn't see out the back, but I went where no bassist has gone.

Through some miracle, I convinced my wife (a minivan/SUV devotee) that we should get a Toyota Matrix (could be the +$200 in gas we've been putting in the Dodge Caravan every month). Fun little ride, not too small, big-feeling inside.

Of course, I took the bass to the dealership before buying; fit great with plenty of room to spare (priceless look on the saleman's face was fun).

I have an O7 that I traded a 98 Subaru Forester for. The
Subaru was a great ride as well but I really dig the prius.
Plus since I have broken the 5k mileage point I have been
averaging about 52mpg.

It really is. I got one for at least a half dozen purely practical reasons. #1 - to haul the gear (often have to cart 2 DBs PLUS two passengers, amp, stands, etc). Snow & Hills, lots of both where I live. Gas mileage, for an SUV, is really pretty decent.

I also hauled 900 sq ft of hardwood flooring....

2007 Honda Odyssey 2.4 i-Vtec, fitted out with two electric basses, one combo amp, suitcase of cables and effects, the occasional Djembe and, for good measure, the odd 3 fellow band-members.

One size fits all in this 7-seater.

'97 Honda Civic hatchback:

Holds the bass, stool, amp, pole mount stand, dolly, and one passenger. For out of town gigs, I take my wife's '06 CRV, which is a great road car. I was mightily impressed with Jack Helsley's Element when I saw it, too.
