Well I fit the bass in the corolla but the problem is that it feels very tight in. Im afraid there is too much pressure on the body and neck of the bass and I dont want it to break. Dunno... anyone else out there with a corolla workin out for them? I also cant fit my huge amp in it.

Double Bass cars for double bass?

When I put my bass in the car, I can rest the end pin on the dash and it supports the bass to the point where there's no real pressure on anything else besides the heel - Is that bad for the bass? I've got pillows and crap underneath it as well.
I had a Corolla last year - fitted my bass, amp, acoustic guitar, acoustic guitarist and myself happily with bags of room to spare. Could have fitted much more. And they never break down. 'Rollies all the way!
I used to drive a 98 VW passat, and could barely get a bass in there. it was a smaller bass that I played at that time. then I totalled that one, and got a 96 pontiac trans am. I could fit two basses in that car pretty easily. lay down the back seat, and you could fit one through the hatch. Lay down the passenger seat, and fit the other in through the passenger door. still had room to shift gears, AND have the t-tops out. it was nice. But then I fell in love with a bow, and sold the trans am and bought a vw bus. well, needless to say that I can fit a bass in there. I once got 4 basses and 2 extra people in there 
and no risk of damage to the instruments. I even got 2 flight cases in there a few weeks ago. perfect bassmobile if you ask me

My best car for my bass was a 92 civic hatch. The neck came up between the seats. Often rode with a Band mate with a Fender Deluxe and a big archtop case... and sometimes my little swr workingman's 12. I have a CR-V now that's ok, but the civic was easier for some reason. Sometimes if it's nice weather, it rides shotgun in my Miata with the top down.
Hey I'm just wondering if anyone knows if a 3/4 size bass with a somewhat large padded case could fit in a Volkswagen GTI... It's pretty much my dream car at the moment. I'm sure the bass itself could fit with the seats folded seeing as it's a hatchback but I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with being able to shift gears at least somewhat comfortably with the bass in the car. And also.. is the VW rabbit any different than the GTI as far as cargo room? I'd take a GTI over a rabbit any day because of the engine and all... but they're both pretty cool rides.
If neither of these are good options could someone maybe recommend a nicely priced, somewhat small car with a manual trans and a reasonable price tag that could fit a bass without getting in the way of shifting gears?.. I'm willing to give up having all wheel drive for the GTI/Rabbit but if there are any cars that fit the criteria above with all wheel drive that could be good for me seeing as I live in Minnesota.

And the Golf is about the size of a GTI, right? Was there still room to shift gears if it was a manual car you were driving? Or if it was automatic there would be enough room around the shifting area with the neck of the bass protruding into the center console area? That would be awesome to own a GTI with a 6 speed manual.
I drive an 07 Rabbit (US version of the Golf) with a manual transmission. With the back seat folded down, my bass fits nicely. The head extends through the front seats, over the parking brake, but leaves me just enough room to operate the shifter.
The Golf, the GTI and GT and the Rabbit are all the same car, just with different engines and setup... and yes, a bass will go in one just fine. 'course if you want a car it'll go in a bit more easily, the Audi A4 quatro wagon is available with the same engine and box as the GTI... and with 4wd as well, it's a better car.

Dude, that's totally kick ass.
While I dont have a UB any longer, I drive a Mazda 5. That thing has a huge amount of room. Less than 20k new. I also can get 28-30 mpg on the highway. I did used to carry a ub in a 74 Datsun B210 though

Reminds me of driving my '70 camper bus back from L.A. to N.Y. in '82. I was broke, like you read about.
All my worldly possessions, including my DB and EB, amps, etc., and could still sleep in the bus, comfortably, in welcoming parking lots.
The Continental Divide at 45 to 50, max. What a hoot. Things were simpler then...
A little off topic but does anyone have access to that great photo of some country or swing band in the 30's or maybe early 40's with a DB tied to the roof of their vehicle? I'd like to have that to send to contacts as a spoof.
No car, I use a truck. Toyota Pre-Runner. Lots of padding in the back for long hauls across the states. Works great but I only travel in low humidity areas with my plywood bass. Sometimes it blows my mind my bass is still in tune after 10 hours back there! God Bless plywood basses for travel. "The smell of a plywood bass in the moring smells like AMERICANA."
