Double Bass cars for double bass?

I have fit my 3/4 bass in:

2002 Pontiac Sunfire
1999 Ford Taurus Wagon
2008 Jeep Patriot

I intend to buy a Dodge Magnum of some variety - Likely an SXT or an R/T. If I can't get one, I'll likely go used and buy the biggest most comfortable wagon I can. A used hearse would not be out of the question.

This is exactly how I do it...

Bizarre to think of, but my bass fits in the front passenger seat that way, and I have 2/3 of the rear seat and the whole trunk free for other gear. Or a passenger can ride in the rear seat, behind the driver's seat.

All of this reminds me of a vignette from the bad old days. Did a jazz trio fundraiser back in the early '80's for some politico. Drums, piano, bass. Dug the piano player; she was beautiful, sweet, smart, and musical.

We were both broke, living in The Valley (L.A. area). I was driving my '64 Dart, with the driver's side doors (both front and rear) that wouldn't open (entry and exit through the windows, only).

Post gig relaxation, driving home, talking, sunset. The bass was in the front passenger, the comely pianist was behind me, gear crammed in the rest of the car. We were up in one of the canyons, and stopped to look at the sunset. Things were feeling sort of sweet and romantic.

A CHP pulls up behind us, lights on. He sees my sh*tbox Dart, stopped on the side of the road, makes us out to be trouble. Cop walks up to us, says, "Get out of the car." The piano player and I both start hoisting ourselves out of the window openings. The cop is aghast, angry, and incredulous, "I SAID TO Get OUT OF THE CAR!" Me, "We're trying."

I pop the trunk. He sees the amp, etc. Stares at us, hard, for a minute. Turns without a word, walks back to his cruiser, and drives off, shaking his head. Sort of broke the whole romantic, sunset, boy/girl thing. We climbed back in through our respective windows, and drove home without talking much. Things just weren't the same with her, after that...

My 3/4 size Kay has ridden in: '64 Corvair Monza coupe, '62 Corvair Greenbrier van, 64 MG 1100, '73 Fiat 124 wagon, 75 Honda 1200 Civic hatchback, 3/4 ton chevy pickups, 91 Chevy Corsica 4 door, 85 Toyota Celica Supra hatchback, Chevy Suburban (two fit in there along with a whole bunch of other instruments) '91 Dodge Shadow convertible.....

We've just bought a Ford Flex, and it's the nicest car we've ever owned.

It holds at least full sized bass or a full sized pedal harp. Maybe together- haven't tried that yet.

But in addition, it's a really slick ride. Gas mileage isn't bad for a larger car either.

A limo ,or the epitome of hot rods, drum roll...........The Ford Country Squire Station Wagon.Or,you could always get on an illegal drug binge and steal(borrow) a UPS truck.

All jokes aside, how 'bout a Chevy Suburban?Anythig w/a fold down rear seat would work.

No joke,I could carry a SVT bass cab +accessories in a Dodge Omni.

Ok so I just got my 2006 corolla delivered to me today. Its not a hatchback. I really dont know if I can fit my bass in there, I lowered both passanger and back 2/3 seat but it creates a big bump which im afraid to put my bass on because it could create 2 much pressure on one point. I rly dont know what to do, should I take the seats off? im freakin out.

yeah its just back in my hometown I used a older version of corolla and I did the same,,,xept for some reason it had more space than this new version. So when I used it back then it did actually crack the neck of the bass one day, so thats why im so afraid of it happening again.

I have one of the 4 door Jeep Wranglers (Called the Unlimited). Drives very different than the 2 door version, IMO. I put down the back seat, and I can easily fit my doublebass, my Schroeder 12+L, my Markbass head, my stool, stand, a 4 piece drumset with bags and hardware, and a couple EBs, if needed. VERY happy with my ride, and I used to buy/sell cars with a wholesale license. This ride delivers satisfaction, for me.

Mine looks like this, but bright yellow!

FWIW, I've had a 2003 Toyota Matrix and its been just perfect. Front seat folds down flat, I fold down the right side of the 40/60 rear seat (or the whole thing if I need the room) and the bass lays on its left side, bridge side toward the right. I can fit the bass, a 2x10 combo amp (or a separate pre/power amp rack case and a 15" or 2x10" cab), a non-folding stool (sometimes), heavy-duty breakdown music stand, an EBG if I'm doubling (not too often). I could put the neck between the front seats if I really need to put two people in, but usually its just me. The rear deck is flush with the folded down rear seats and there's no lip, its straight out.

I've looked at a 2009 Matrix and it has about a 2" lip that the rear hatch closes onto. It might interfere getting the bottom bout through the hatch without some gyrations. I'm not happy about that, plus the front passenger seat doesn't fold flat anymore. As a matter of fact, every new car I've looked at that has a side air bag on the passenger side, that seat doesn't fold flat. :-(((

I've yet to check the Nissan Versa, but its looked promising. Thanks Christ Andronis for the input. The only problem is the nearest Nissan dealer is 50 miles away. But I've done that before I bought the Matrix.
