Carvin SB5000 / SB4000 Roll Call...Part 4!

Why are the B's lighter than the SBs? From the in stock page:

B40 - Weight: 8.3 lbs
SB4000 - Weight: 9.3 lbs, 10.2 lbs

B5 - Weight: 8.0 lbs
SB5000 - Weight: 9.6 lbs

I was wondering that myself. That B5 is crazy light weight - and the other one is very light too.

Both B5's popped up at the same time and had the same specs - but different colors. I wonder if Carvin made them special for the in-stock page? But that is aweful light for a non-chambered body. Very tempting if you have a sore back!

I called and talked to Kevin about them and he said a customer of his ordered 3 of them with the same specs in different colors and couldn't afford to pay for them. One sold, the other two are still up there. That could be true or possibly another "in stock conspiracy" dun dun dun

I received the new Satin Black and Clear pick Guards for my SB5001 today and "Jeannie Pickguards" did a great job!

I sent them my old pick guard last Tuesday and they arrived yesterday afternoon (all the way from CA to GA)! Now that's service! And the quality is top notch. Every hole lines up perfectly AND they beat the others that provided quotes by 33% in price.

I was only going to have the Satin Black made but I figured that while I had the old pick guard there (required) and the fact that additional shipping would only be $1.00 verses $8.00, why not get a clear one made too.

I'm going with the Satin Black for now but I really like the looks of the clear in person. It actually gives the illusion that a pick guard is installed ( I know it really is installed but it is clear! ) and it looks like a pick guard isn't installed from a distance.
Down the road it'll probably be a nice change of looks and might even relieve GAS!

They all do look great, mainly because of that black control plate, but if I did have a slight preference, it would also be the clear one. FWIW.

Yeah, you know the more that I look at the pictures the more I prefer the clear.
Maybe it's because I've been looking at the bass for several weeks with the gloss black (and I've grown a bit bored with the look) but the black just looks .... well ... very predictable.

I'm actually very surprised because I wasn't crazy about the look of the bass without the pick guard. Maybe it's because when you look at the bass with the clear pick guard all that you really see is an outline of a pick guard and the nice walnut underneath. It's like the best of both worlds.

That clear guard is SWEET!!!! I could go on about transparency but it would get a bit ridiculous so I'll just say that it really resolves the issues by both allowing the top wood to be seen while also engaging the control plate.

Yep. I think that you nailed it. It keeps the control plate from appearing to be hanging out in space.

The clear pick guard is now installed!

Thanks for the comments guys! They confirmed my initial thoughts. I'm definitely glad that I went ahead and ordered the clear one when I ordered the satin black.
I would imagine that the clear pick guard would look great with most of the SB's with the nice tops.

Much larger control cavity in the Bs, and slightly smaller body, I think.

Bassplayarob, that is a great looking bass. I always like black hardware with swamp ash.

JOME77, another vote for the clear guard. It looks good with the control plate and lets the beautiful wood show. Win/win!

I'm betting even if that's true, they just know they'll have no trouble moving the basses, so they may have cut them some slack based on that.

Nice looking bass, but the blocks look like stickers, the first and last one look a bit crooked to me...
