Carvin SB5000 / SB4000 Roll Call...Part 4!

I requested SS strings on mine when I ordered it, and I don't know who makes them, but I was thinking it was not LaBella.

Since then, I've put a set of (believe it or not) MTD SS strings on it, and really those sound great too!

I do think DR HiBeams would sound particularly great though... maybe even the LoRiders for that matter, and honestly, a great set of nickels would probably work great too... maybe XL's or even the Dunlops.

Yeah, strings sound real good on basses.

EDIT:
I was kidding of course, but lately I'm thinking more and more that just as any bass can sound good, pretty much any string can sound good on any bass, it just brings out a different side of the instrument's personality.

If the neck is set up for SS strings, it might not have enough relief for Chromes - the tension *is* different...

Pretty much the same here. My 5001 sounds so good passive my Am. Std jazz doesn't get out much any more.

I'm still just totally floored by the sound of these basses. Especially when I gig out. They sound soooo good in a mix!
And did I mention the great low setup that these bass will take?

That's the thing that really sold me. It's a killer sounding bass in the mix. Records well, cuts through but not obnoxious in a live mix. I'm pretty happy with my setup right now, just wish it was physically lighter without actually sounding lighter.

Well, he *could* have taken this bass to a dude who does inlays - we used to have at least one I knew of in San Diego (John Dimaggio at Bass Alone... He moved on to Yacht work!!!)...

But I am *dubious*.
