Carvin SB5000 / SB4000 Roll Call...Part 4!

I think the dream came from:
1) anticipation of calling Carvin today for an update, which I'm gonna do here in a minute, and..
2) the recent posts about quality control issues. Although, that would be an extreme one!
Also, the first Carvin bass I had was a cherry sunburst LB70 which I bought new in 1993. It was like ordering a pizza. "Pepperoni, extra cheese, quilted maple top, tung oil, gold hardware.." That one cost a couple hundred more than I'm paying for my SB5000, and it wasn't nearly the bass this one is gonna be.

Wish it was Alder. I went and checked a $3000 Sadowsky Metro Will Lee thinking it would be lighter... nope .5lbs heavier than this $874 Carvin.

This gets into the other thing that's been kind of a big change for me brought about by the SB model.

To be honest, I've been impressed with Carvin's fit/finish and quality for a while now, but every time I picked up even the most amazing looking LB/BB models, I was like, meh, doesn't really "call me". I always thought that was odd, since I would've assumed from what I saw it'd be a fantastic bass in every way. Just never understood my whole "luke warm" thing with them. I guess I still don't, but at least with the SB model, I definitely don't have that "issue" anymore.

Go figger.

I don't really have any experience with Carvin basses outside of the SB, but it seems like they got their electronics "right" with this one and it made a big diff. I'll never forget the first time I played an SB5000 (into a BX500) and my jaw hit the floor. The only other time I have been that surprised at how good a bass sounded when I first plugged it in was my first experience with a Fodera. (Not that they sound the same, just similarly surprised)

Speaking of... Vic, how's the SB5 into the RH750? :D

*EXACTLY* my feeling. When the Icon came out, I was *ready* to buy one but, upon playing several, left empty handed. They just were... Meh. The SB, however, *Works*. Don't ask me why. It just does. Doubly odd that the 5000 shares the neck with the B50 (which left me cold too!).

Yeah, 'cause next time it won't be cherry burst, it'll be bedazzled in a pink paisley pattern, done in sparkly sequins, with iCarly on the back, and you have a gig you can't get out of that night at a biker bar.

No, this is one of those things only available from the nightmare shop (not to mention the explorer body and lego pickups... don't forget those too!). ;) :D

My wife bought the carvin strap and gig bag for me for my birthday, so I thought I would share some pics of them with my fellow TB'ers

Strap is a little thinner than I thought, but still comfortable.

The SB5000 fits very nicely in the carvin gig bag.
