My wife bought the carvin strap and gig bag for me for my birthday, so I thought I would share some pics of them with my fellow TB'ers

Strap is a little thinner than I thought, but still comfortable.

The SB5000 fits very nicely in the carvin gig bag.

I read a post saying that the bass was a tight fit in it, but I think is fits perfectly...

how long is their strap?

Nice bass sir :)

Based on those pics, I called Carvin to see when my bass would be done. I heard they were running behind so I thought it would be later in the month, but apparently they charged the balance to my card last week and shipped it out. So my new one will be here on Monday! Nice surprise. Good timing too, I've got two gigs with different bands and an audition with a third next week to try it out :D

Awesome! What was the date on your card? I'm eagerly awaiting one due on the 17th.

Cool! That's exciting.
Carvin was supposed to call me today after their computers were down all day yesterday. Nothin' yet. I'm gonna let it ride until Monday.

Interesting thing, I just punched up a few 4 string basses:

BK40A (kit) - $554
B40 - $884 ($330 more than kit)
SB4000 - $1004 ($120 more than B40, $450 more than kit)

I put the following on each:
Abalone Dot Inlays
Stainless Med-Jumbo Frets
Dunlop Straplocks
Ivory Graph Tech TUSQ Nut

I thought the differences were interesting. So how much do you think the SB v B body shape would affect the outcome?

i've gotta say, if i were getting a 4 banger, i would go the b40 route.

Only bad thing about the kit is that it doesn't look like you can get a maple fingerboard - or did I miss something?

I have a friend that can paint it very cool colors. The only thing that holds me up on those is a pickguard. My mind just likes to see a pickguard on a traditional looking bass. Then I wonder how one would look without a control plate if you did have a pickguard.

Jarrett,

I know you have one SB5, how will your new one be configured? I too am receiving my second SB on monday! This one is a SB4 that i found on CL in mint condition. Natural ASH/Maple, abolone markers, chrome, active/passive. Really looking forward to having a 4 string SB!

Ahhh that's very cool! I didn't know you could customize the kits too. I just thought they were sort of pre-packaged.

Definitely something worth looking into.

The one coming is pretty similar to my SB5000, I just want a lighter one really. I ordered it and asked for a light one again this time. Hoping it is.

The main diffs are:
Translucent Pearl Blue instead of Black
Straight Maple fretboard vs. Birdseye
Straight Maple headstock vs. Birdseye (it really bugs me the BE doesn't match on mine)
Ivory Tusq Nut (Carvin suggests intonation is better and my experience concurs)
Abalone dots vs. no dots
Pearloid knobs vs. straight chome

Otherwise its the same bass. I'm hoping it will be lighter and the fretboard/headstock wood will match better is all.

Congrats on your new bass. I'm kicking around a 4 string as well. I could get some weight savings there if I could live without the B.
