Carvin SB5000 / SB4000 Roll Call...Part 5!

This is what I would use my SB5k for. Does it cut thru the mix pretty well?? We have only two 15" on the bottom and a few drivers up on the ceiling and I feel like my Stiletto elite5 gets lost a lot in the mix.

I'm 98% sure I'm ordering the SB5k with the quilted maple top w/ antique brown finish. Since I've never played it before Id like to know what you thought of it. We play a lot of Hillsong and Jesus Culture. Stuff like that.

You should have no problems. Remember, these are voiced like a mid-late 70's Jazz bass, which means the bridge pickup is slightly closer to the bridge, and, it has single coils in it. Both add up to lots of punch, focus, and cut. :)

At one time you could buy internationally from Carvin direct, at the US price with local taxes and shipping added, which worked out very reasonably.
They suddenly changed it so that you had to order through an authorised dealer, and the price shot up to almost double what it was. I don't know who's getting the difference, but the sales guy at carvin explained to me that it was because they weren't selling in very high volumes internationally. So they put the prices UP?
No way would I pay £1300 for a base model SB500 when it's $950 dollars or whatever it is now in the US, so as far as I'm concerned, Carvin shot themselves in the foot big-time. A well-specced out SB500 is about £1800 last time I looked, and for a couple of hundred more you can get a Sadowsky.
Plus you've got that KNOWING the locals are getting it for less than half what your expected to pay factor, and you'd have to be very keen to overcome that.
And I bet that guy's got a degree in marketing.

I got my SB4000 in last night. I played it for a while then decided I was going to ship it back in the morning. Then morning rolls around and I play it some more and decide I like it :) So fickle.

I'm trying to decide whether I will only use it during lessons or not. If only for lessons, then I was thinking of sending it back and getting a Fender Vintage Modified to save some dough. But if I decide to use it beyond that I will keep it. I've got a gigs on the 9th and 10th. I guess I can use it there and make my decision.

I have the most awesome flame koa 5er, ever, and actually returned it, then the same day drove thirty minutes back to the store to get it! Very happy to play this bass every night.

What is the neck carve like on the SB4000's these days? I haven't bought anything for a while (been consumed with golf for the last 9 months :-) ) and thinking about a passive one. Is the nut still bigger than a jazz?

Unfortunately im now giving up on getting a Carvin bass in the UK. The prices are very high, considering how low they are in the USA. The UK buyers are paying a lot for someone to import them into the country (obviously we have 20% VAT and other expenses to pay, but the extra £400-500, where is that going?!).

Been offered a brand new Bongo 5 HH, which ive been chasing for a while. Its actually CHEAPER than the SB5000 by a fair bit. The SB5000s are about $1000 for a fairly normal spec? The Bongo 5 HH is about $1699?!

Doesn't make any sense. Would love a Carvin at some point though.

I don't really know. This is just a standard run of the mill one as far as that goes. Compared to the Jazz basses I've played recently the SB4000 profile seems a little chunkier, but its growing on me fast.
