Carvin SB5000 / SB4000 Roll Call...Part 6!

I love the Umberburst on flamed. I looked long and hard at that one when deciding what to go with.

When I was contemplating my color choices, I almost went with classic burst. The other contenders were umberburst and sunset burst. Of those, I still liked the classic burst best. There's a reason it's called classic.

Alright guys, I'm about to order another SB today. Need some input on color. I'm shooting for the old school Fender sunburst/Boring/Stale/Alder/Rosewood type thing but not sure which of Carvin's burst finishes to get.

I don't really like the really dark edges on their Classic Sunburst, so I've been looking a some of the other finishes:

Incidentally there's a Dragonburst SB-4001 on Ebay right now for $800. If I had the cash I'd scoop it up.

Oh yeah, you gots to gets the blocks. Its straight up 70's mojo. And the knobs make it pop. I'm not a big fan of the plain chrome knobs...

Interesting note: if you look at the Blueburst and the Classic burst you can see the grains fairly well. They are both the swamp ash option, yet the blue one has much tighter grain and is heavier than the classic sunburst. The classic sunburst is super light weight and has more spread out grain, less density in the wood. While I enjoy the lightness of classic sunburst bass, the blue one is tone city. You really can tell if you played both of them, especially on slap bass. The heavier bass just has magic in it. I can't say that it's all in the weight, but I think that makes a big part of it...

Thanks man, I'm "lucky" you popped in here I just placed an order for a Alder/4-string version of your bass. Looks like the middle of July for delivery. I received my first SB (that i kept for a year+) in June 2010, my second SB (that I still have) in June 2011 and now this one coming in July 2012. I see a pattern, I guess I like to get a new SB every summer, hehe.

Jarret, do you have other SBs with 12 inch radius? Thinking about another SB in rosewood but curious what your thoughts are on the the different measurements.

I do have a fretless SB4000 with a 12 inch radius. I've recently been playing some Fenders with the 9.5 radius which prompted me to try the 10" radius which I haven't played before. But the standard 12's seem fine to me.

That Translucent Pearl Blue is a good color, especially under the stage lights. I played at church last Saturday night and was sitting in audience listening to the message between sets. My SB5000 was on the stand on the stage with the stage lights on it, really making the colors stand out and I thought, "Man... that's a good looking bass right there"

I received a postcard with the Tracking Number from Carvin yesterday for my SB5000 .

It should be here by the end of this week since I live in San Jose.

Now the real waiting begins!!!
