You're right, it's not helping my GAS, but I DID ask for it. If I could sell my Sound City B120 I would probably have another one ordered already.

I just received this fretless neck for my SB4000 - but I can't decide which one to put it on.

Neck is lined ebony - maple with maple headstock - chrome tuners - but I have a set of black tuners.

Black SB4K with chrome hardware and two J99 single coils -

Walut SB4K - with black harware - one j99 and on MM-style -

I know I can swap out necks on either - but I really only want to do it once. Am leaning toward the black one.

Opinions???

The Walnut with humbuckers. Cosmetically, I'd go for the Black one. But the humbucker on the Walnut one will allow you to solo that bridge pickup without hum....

Walnut is outstanding on fretless. Mids for days.

I'd pair the ebony board with the walnut, personally. I have a fondness for that combination, just cosmetically. Plus, the humbucker would probably be a nice choice with the fretless.

I can put some walnut stain on the headstock and switch out the tuners to the black ones and it should look great on the walnut bass.

If you painted it black, it would look good on both basses.

My bass will be done around 6/30...I will be picking it up at the Hollywood shop...
I have a question about strings...I play DR Sunbeams on my current bass...The strings that come with SB's are hidious IMO..Super rough and noisy...

I'm thinking about bringing a set with me to the shop and putting them on right there to check every thing out before I take her home..

Looks like the stock nickels are 40-60-80-100-128...
I was thinking about going with nickel Low Riders...I know they are hex core..Should I stick with a simular gage?

Any help would be great...

Sounds pretty similar to my standard model SB4000. I've got an email in to Carvin's service department, to find out if I can ship them my bass and pay to have them swap out the body for a chambered one. I'll let you all know what I hear back.

I don't feel like I lose anything tonally with the bass being this light. Especially once I dime my bass and crank the fuzz.

Kinda need a fretless to make that Bowie style work. Not trying to buy a fretless neck or bass. Just for fun.

I like the strings that came with mine. But I'll probably be looking at the DDT's or some Circle K's.

It's not so much the guage as it is the tension. Keeping a similar tension will allow the neck less play and gives you a better chance of maintaining intonation and action. Introducing a different tension to the neck will more than likely require a setup.

It's your bass, bring whatever strings you like and set it up while you're there. If you're going to take the time to restring it, you might as well set the action, do a trussrod adjustment, and intonate it too.

Congrats on the new bass. As long as you are digging the bass, that is all that matters.
