Carvin SB5000 / SB4000 Roll Call...Part 8!

Purchased a used SB5001. Awesome bass. It is Black with a Birdseye neck. I noticed on the Carvin website that they do not list solid black as a paint option for the SB5001. The bass weighs 9.2 lbs. Is it really a 5001? Is there a way to prove it? I don't see a serial number on the bass.

My 5001 is 9.1 lbs therefore I dun see a problem with 9.2. Then again, u can always check it by knocking on the top. And check out from the carvin page where do they do the routings for the chambers. For my bass, it does sound a bit hollow when hitting over these spots.

The chambered basses come standard with flame or quilted top, and so solid colors are not an option. It is possible, though, that Carvin built one with a plain top and solid color when requested by a customer. I'm not certain how to tell if the bass actually has chambers, but I would call Carvin and ask to speak with Albert, who is the head guitar tech. He is the most knowledgeable person at Carvin on issues such as this.

You can order a 4K/5K and have it chambered (alder/ash only) and then have a solid color. It's a $150 charge.

4001 and 5001 indicate chambered fancy top. Or, there is a chambered option with ash or alder. I have a solid color chambered ash. Can't remember chambered option code.

Thanks for posting that info. The options change every now and then, and I don't always keep up. It's like the 1 piece ash body option. My SB4000 came with a one piece body before there was even such an option, so I got a $20 upcharge for free.

The new option on the ebony fretboard for pure black or possibly streaked is interesting. I think I'll order the streaked ebony just for some variety. I think it looks cool.
