I have been playing my SB5000 for about 7 months now, and I LOVE this thing.
for anyone looking to hear a live sound, here is a little mp3 we recorded live from a local band in Toronto, Canada.
it was recorded off the floor with a TASCAM recorder.
its a salsa tune originally recorded by Jerry Rivera, and Ruben Rodriguez on bass. (da man!) hope you like and sorry for the screw ups, this band hasn't rehearsed for at least a year

Have had my SB5000 now since August, have done every gig on it except for two. It's great. The tone knob, however, has a very small window between totally off and totally on. Would a new pot fix this?
Also, have people here replaced the pickups? What do people like for a more old school sound out of their SB5000?

That's a pretty nice tone even with a bad recording. I bet the bass sounded great live.
I have been thinking to get a SB5000 for almost one year, this morning I found a great opportunity in the classified section that I could not let pass by so I finally pulled the trigger. I should get it next week![]()

Just curious... how do you guys think an SB5000 with ash body, maple neck and birdseye maple fretboard would compare in sound to an SB5000 with identical neck/body woods and an ebony fretboard? I've heard ebony sounds similar to maple...?
