Hi! I just bought this SB5001F Fretless.
We've been rehearsing for an upcoming gig, and I've put in about 14 hours on this bass in the past 3 days. Great player, and very comfortable.
It's my first Carvin and first fretless. Quite versatile.

I thought I'd be playing at most maybe 3 of our 21 song set on this. After practicing with only this bass for the past 3 days, it looks like this will be the go-to bass for the whole gig (!) (?) (!!)
So, who's gonna be the first to buy and try out these new Carvin JVA single coil pickups using the plain enamel wire and report back to us?
In the latest Carvin catalog's pickup section shows a JVA & JVAR (reverse). It uses "vintage plain enamel wire for the punchiest sounding J-type pickup available."
I think it is an option...but they are selling them in sets. Call me interested, but it's too close to Christmas to spend some cash on some pickups to test out.

Yeah, that's the pickup they are using for the J in the PBJ. I would really like to hear a pair of them in an SB series bass.
Absolutely. Funny though...it's still not on their website. At least I couldn't find it.
What strings are you all using? I just put a set of Sadowsky Blue Labels on. Not sure yet what I think. Too early to tell.
Are you the current owner of that bass? Did you trade an Ovation Acoustic for it?

My band mate posted a vid of my new (to me) SB5001F's first outing. We sure had fun: http://youtu.be/wulhUbS4wjs Not the most complex song in the world, but I like how the bass sounds. (And the fact that you can hear it in the mix, too)
