Carvin SB5000 / SB4000 Roll Call!

Man...I nearly wet myself when you posted this pic,...I ran to the Carvin site and saw that they have several SB4000's in stock for sale now, but this is the only 5000...my heart raced, i got a lump in my throat...I grabbed for the credit card...and then I saw that it was fretless.... :(
Beautiful bass though.

Okay, I had to go back to the Carvin site to get my finishes right. The 2 basses I posted previously were White White and Vintage Cream. The bass I have posted to this message is Classic White. Ugh, so many choices, these Carvin people!

IMHO, I'm not a big fan of Vintage Cream. It has a sort of charm but looks too yellow for my taste. I like the White White better than the Vintage but boy...its sure WHITE isn't it? I think the Classic White might have just the right balance, not too yellow, not to shocking white. This finish with a birdseye maple board and headstock would kill. I'd throw in abalone dots too. Elegant but just a dash of bling.

Hmm... Classic white or white white.... Decisions!

My specs are solid other than color:

SB5000

chrome hardware
ash body / maple neck
birdseye maple board
birdseye maple headstock
abalone dots
abalone logo
stainless med/jumbo frets
standard pre / single coils
bell cover
tort guard with additional white pearl guard with no holes for bell cover

Have I left anything out? I hope not.

The bass is really better than I expected. The sound of the j99a pickups are really strong, articulate, and punchy. The neck feels great in my hands. The finish on the bass is just what hoped it would be. This is definitely money well spent. I think I've gotten a bass that I will have for a very long time. Way to go Carvin!!!

Well got to gig with my Sb5000 last night and only because my guitar player made me take the SB5000.He said it's the best sounding bass I never had, so I made him happy and me too.

I used my Carvin BX500 with one of my GB Neox 112t cab, let me said I was please with how well the bass sounded and played. The only adjustment I made when I got home was to adjust the neck bow, after that just awesome.

I played in passive mode all night because it sounded better than the active. The tone pot in passive works very well and allow the tone to be change from bass to treble easier. The bridge HB sounded full just like the neck but with a little more treble. Some time I have to check which pickup is on, it's that close.

IMO Carvin got a winner here and I very happy with the J & HB combo..
