You don't buy a car with a manual tansmission, run it up to 80mph and then shift it into first gear. Any problems resulting from this would be considered "pilot error," despite the fact that there is no sign on the dashboard telling you not to shift into first gear at high speeds. When they sold you the car, they assumed you knew how to drive.
You're argueing that since the car was packaged with a manual tranny and it goes fast, then you should naturally be able to shift into any gear you want at any speed you want. Not that the dealer sold you a car with no oil.
I thought this was dead and buried too, but.....
Of course there was an element of operator error. Seems like I've made that clear a few times now; as soon as I realized what I was doing (not long after firing it up), I corrected the error, preventing damage. My rig's just fine.
But it's also easy to expect that something sold as a "package" is designed to work as a "package" - just like it's easy to expect that the dealer put oil in that new car before delivering it to you, hence the accuracy of the analogy. And that package included literature describing this mode of operation, with no apparent warnings.
I'm not bashing the product, mgood; as I've told you before, it's perfectly good gear. But one of two things should happen:
- Include a "hit-em-in-the-face" yellow warning page with the stacks that include a 4-ohm cab, warning users not to try the "bridged" mode that the manual describes. Place it on top inside the box, so it's the first thing the purchaser sees. Maybe another sticker on the back of the amp, near the speaker outputs.
...or...
- Sell the stacks with 8-ohm cabs. ONLY 8-ohm cabs.
Seems amazing to me that you guys could take either of these simple steps and reduce your number of dissatisfied customers (there's one in this very thread, post #6 - imagine that), yet you resist. It makes so much more sense to educate your customers about the dangers of low impedance loads before (or eliminate the possibility), rather than to blame them afterward - especially when you're selling a stack that has the potential for this problem built-in, and which includes an explanation of running bridged in the literature.
Think of how many more sales you might gain from "word-of-mouth" (or "word-of-Internet") advertising if more folks were happy with their Carvin rigs, instead of PO'd that the head smoked.
But hey, they're your headaches. And it's your reputation. You can point the finger at users until the cows come home, but it's not going to generate new sales. Satisfied users will. Dissatisfied users tell anyone who will listen how bad the gear is, and cost you money. You are in the business of making money, right?

Trust me - these 2.66-ohm-parallel stacks with 4-ohm-minimum-bridged Redline heads and no obvious warnings are hurting your bottom line. They're adding to the number of "Carvin bashers" that you detest. Put simply - make it idiot-proof. Because you will sell some to idiots (I myself took leave of my senses the first few hours, figuring that the Carvin folks had taken care of these issues when packaging the stack - just like we all "figure" that the dealer put oil in that new engine when we drive off).
