Carvin's BX1500 and B2000

Has anyone put the their bx500 or bx1500 on a frequency analyzer? I was curious how the eq curves look, what the frequency curve looks like with the tone controls set flat, etc. Does anybody think that these amps sound like a peavey tour series. Thats kind of what they remind me of. Anyway, Im thinking about picking up a bx1500.

Lmao, funny you say that, since im lookin to upgrade to one of these new badboys from a tour 450, wouldn't be so bad since I like my tone. I just like the versatility of the bx1500 and the tube looks nice, has a graphic eq like my tour which I love, plus a better extra, I find the octaver on the tour quite useless, but I'd definitely put that comp to good use.

Do you have any big gigs coming up?

I think if you enjoy and the B2000 works well for you then im going to order me one. lol no pressure. Im also looking alot at reliability. So nothing you can control.

I'll keep everyone posted. I do have gigs coming up. Nothing huge until July though. My band rehearses in a 6 car garage/shop with 15' ceilings, concrete floors and no PA support for bass. Combine that with a heavy-handed drummer and it's by far the toughest room I've ever played. I'll have several rehearsals with the B2000 in there and that will tell me a lot.

I can't remember exactly what tests you guys do, but will you be testing to see how the amp reacts in situations where the AC power mains are a bit sketchy? By this, I mean that perhaps the full 110 volts are not being supplied. I've been very curious about this ever since I heard speculation that such situations might be causing problems for some of the Class D heads.

We don't publish any measurements that involve intentionally under powering an amp (starved AC conditions), but we do look at a lot of things that don't necessarily get published. We have been evaluating class D amps and how to test them for some time, and believe me, there are a number of factors that make testing class D quite different from testing class AB or G. I'll pass along some notes to Tom Lees, our Technical Editor, about seeing how the BX500 performs under starved AC conditions. We do have a Variac, so that should be easy enough to accomplish.

Anyone have a BX series amp and a DCM poweramp?? Are they basically the same poweramp section?

I was going to pick up a DCM to use with other things (guitar, maybe chapman stick in the future).. but if I got the BX1500 and if I am able to bypass the preamp, would it be the exact same as a DCM? That would save lots of money and rig space..

I'm not sure, but I think the power amp section is the same as the lightweight Carvin power amps, DCL's ?

DCM-L's you mean? Like, DCM1540L.. Honestly, if they were the same, that would make me so happy.

Can you comment on if you can plug another preamp into the back of the BX1200/BX1500? I recall reading you have one of them (maybe the BX1200?) so if you can comment on it.. Can you bypass the BX preamp, and say use something like a Pod direct into the poweramp section??

No, I used to have one of the new power amps, the DCML 1540, but sold it. You can probably insert a different preamp in the effects loop somewhere. However, why not buy the power amp, they are cheaper than the head right now.
