Double Bass Cases for detachable neck basses

Do you check the rifle case or carry on? I'm guessing that might be an issue these days. Is the chadwick case much lighter and thus evades the TSA charges?

I check the rifle case. They just ask if it's a weapon. Not too much hassle. And the Chadwick case and bass are less than 50 lbs. Still oversize, but checking in curbside usually avoids extra fees. Just tip the person and it's usually good.

Is it possible to buy the chadwick case separately? At the moment I have the nanoo case which works well but it's bulky in size and the chadwick case is somewhat smaller right? Transporting the neck in a p-bass soft case seems like a good idea. Anyone knows the weight of the gage Mooradian: Ultra-Lite Bass Cover ? I emailed gage but no reply yet.
Best,
Chris

I am sure you can, I'd email him. I bought a Chadwick hybrid because it is the first travel option that is an actual fair price. Gouging us for half a case or half a ply bass never sat well with me.
I have it set up perfectly and it is fine.

If was rich, I would have a really nice removable neck bass but I'd still not be very into handing it over to baggage monkeys!

Yeah, if someone could invent a device that could sense improper handling of the flight case and provided an electric shock I'd be way into that...

RIFLE CASES FOR THE NECK

I'm currently having my CaseXtreme "Style C" case modified into a body only case, and then I'm gonna get a rifle case for the neck.

What specific rifle cases are people using for their removable necks? Any horror stories? Love stories?

How has the case worked for you? I am looking to get a Style C myself, but I just need someone to attest to their reliability for peace of mind.

I saw this hybrid case at Atlantic Strings in Orlando FL. It is very impressive and goes for just under $800. This is definitely on my GAS list along with an new blonde Upton plywood flatback. :smug:

Sorry to dig up this old-ish thread, but wondering if you found a rifle case that works for you, and if so, how you're attaching it (if you are) to the CaseXtreme? I'm in a similar situation, I'm looking at the CaseXtreme cases - it looks like their option to add the neck case is $400 more than without (which isn't too bad), and I'm curious if you've found a better or cheaper solution. Thanks!

Wow this thread went cold about 4 years ago. I'm sure C19 didn't help that either.
I too am now on the hunt for a RN case. Giving a very high consideration to the Model C from Casextreme but just want to make sure I'm doing the right thing. Has anyone else had experience with that model? My bass is already small, 3/4 solo, so it should all be nice and compact enough to do the neck-in model C. Checking 2 bags just seems counter intuitive if it can all come in under 50 lbs. But maybe someone has a good reason for this. I'm all ears.

Hey Dan, I'm going the Case Xtreme route, likely with the neck inside too. Had a good look at one recently (well, pre Covid tour times) and talked with a few friends who use them. No issues, and the reports are that the CX folks are easy to work with. Good luck. DK
