Cat scratch rat fur problems... Any easy fixes?

Personally, i don't care what it looks like if it performs up to my expectations. Much better than vinyl that rips and tears and gets sticky. If you are a working bassist with cabs bigger than a shoe box , just get used to it or go get a road case to keep it pretty.

had the same problem...once it's done, it' done!

I finally surrendered and stripped the cab of all carpet crap, went to Autozone and bought a gallon of pickup bed liner "paint"...much like the Rhino stuff. Some older stage gear was costed in this type stuff and still looks good after 40 years! Did add any significant weight and solved the problem!

(If you care to go to the Rhino Co. they have colors as well!!!)

The carpet CAN be taken off, it's just a huge PITA...and you have to either paint it or recover it with something when you're done. There are a couple of earlier threads where the techniques and difficulties are discussed pretty thoroughly. This is a recent one: Stripping Rat Fur Whether or not it's worth the effort is a judgement call for the user. Not really worth it, IMO, but YMMV. One advantage is that at least it's not a huge box.

I bought a used 1st generation Rumble off of Craigslist for cheap; the guy advertising it said it was because his cat had scratched it up so badly, but when I saw it, it didn't look too much different than an amp that has been schlepped around for a year or two. It's not really noticeable in a typical bar/club setting, so I didn't do anything about it...I never even notice it now that I've had it a year or so. (I had to look to remind myself which of my two rat-fur covered amps it was.)

They cut corners on construction (cheap rat fur, particle board I think). So, it's definitely not worthy of stripping and refinishing with bedliner after I looked up other threads on that topic. I'm wondering if there's some other easy and cheap option that will make it look a little better. My thoughts were shaving it with an electric hair trimmer or possibly taking the hardware off and putting tons of paint on it to mat it down. I have a bunch of different house paints laying around. I know it wouldn't stick well, but if I just put some thick coats on.... maybe????

Trimming works but you could strip it and paint with truck bed liner.

Funny thing is currently have 6 cats. Have had several others over the lat 30 years and not once did they ever scratch a rat fur cab. Layed on top hundreds of times while I practice at low volume, but never any digging. Then again I trim their nails regularly and provided lots of other scratching alternatives. One chair that seemed like a target got the sticky strips, and ended it quickly.
