Change pots on G&L L2500

The audio curve is reverse what it would be in a normal audio pot. It's still logrithmic, but in the opposite direction. A regular 1M audio pot will not have the right curve for the bass cut control.

Just curious... was anything wrong with the pots that were in there?
 
I've been on a quest to replace the pots in my Tribute L2500 bass. I ordered the USA pots from the G&L website and was disappointed to find that they're just very overpriced Alpha pots. This wouldn't be so bad, except the original Mighty Mite pots from my bass feel better. The reverse audio 1M pots are very hard to find, but I finally found one that's not Alpha. It's made by PEC (Made in Canada). While I haven't tried it, I've read that they're very high quality pots. Here are the links for the G&L values:

Mine is the tribute version, and I belive the pots are made somewhere in indonesia or china. All the wires are of not so great quality and want to change that too.

The us version may have better components.

I've read somewhere on the internet that you can transform a logarithmic pot into a reverse audio by adding a resostor. Can anyone confirm that for me?

Just use a linear taper pot. That's for the passive bass control, and linear will work just fine.

Actually, that trick works best with linear pots and a resistor. I can't recall the exact recipe off the top of my head, but I think I found it with a simple google search for "custom potentiometer curves", or something along those lines. It wasn't too hard to dig up. Somebody wrote up a whole thing on it that, I think, got posted here on TB some time ago.

Alternately, SDGLutheire is right; you can use a linear. It won't be the right curve, but it'll work.

Wow! I haven't seen these for a VERY long time! They are molded element pots that used to be military grade! You can't do better than these. the only downside is the cover is tightly sealed (military ones were dipped in conformal coating for a total seal) so you have to pry the cover off to poof them if they get noisy which takes a VERY long time to happen. Now you've got me thinking about ordering some for my L2500 basses! Especially for the reverse taper bass control. :hmm: (I'm currently using StewMac push-pull pots for vol and treble to add other features.

The same style pots would be killer (though expensive) on my passive SX basses for volume and tone as well. This is a great find. These are probably the only pots left on the planet that are actually cooler than CTS! In the old days I used to buy these military surplus (usually in linear taper) and put them in all my basses! I just played one of my original basses the other day. Pots are 50 years old! Still works great! Say no more!
